Hydrogaurd contains only .1% of the active bennies. Aquiferus bassilus. There are much better products out there that contain up to 99% of the active bennies. And much much cheaper. Look into Southern AG . They have a great nennie product. Also look in Kelp 4 Less. They also have superior quality beneficial bacterias and fungus products. Hydrogaurd is ass. Has in not a good product and a rip off. 2 years late but hope it helps someone.

Nice setup man! I agree good bacteria is the way. If you balance things well you don’t need a chiller. I noticed your air gap in your buckets is huge. How many inches of roots are exposed above the water level?
@myhobbygrow2 ай бұрын
Thank you for the kind words. I've ran beneficial bacteria for 4 years and have not had issues. At the time of this video the gap was probably close to 6". It was right before I drained and refilled with fresh nutes and h2o so it was a little low. But there's times during flower when they are drinking water like crazy that it'll get even lower. Normally when I top off or refill I go to about a 3" air gap.

yo i have to ask. been doing a lot of thinking. why is your piping ( and everyone elses) so damn long. What if we shortened the tubes drastically, and limited it to 3 gallons per bucket. This would allow us to increase the number of plants dramatically and enforce a SOG Hydro grow, which should increase yield per total grow area. What do you think? Really hard to find premade systems like this. Only a 2 week veg with maybe 12 clones from a mother plant.
@myhobbygrow2 ай бұрын
I can't shorten the piping due to where the buckets are. How can you "shorten the tubes drastically" but still have a run to each bucket? Thanks for watching

@Ovrlord_14 ай бұрын
my only issue with RDWC was the roots would get so thick that one bucket would block the water flow to the next bucket and if a close bucket to the head unit was blocked all the water from the system would overflow. The plants would be so heavy that it was always a nightmare trying to unblock a bucket even though I was using 32mm connections and hose.

@myhobbygrow4 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and for the question. I have had the roots grow into the drain line but never enough to totally block it. Going with a bigger drain can help prevent this. It is a chance though. I also try to keep smaller plants with smaller root mass.

How often do you add the beneficial bacteria and do you change water and clean your reservoirs during the grow? I used to grow in a sterile system using peroxide and since I started using it I never got root rot or pythium again but I still encountered 2 problems. One was something I have never seen before, always at the start when my cuttings were rooted and I put them into the DWC bucket, the roots wouldn't start to grow for 2-3 weeks, then they exploded and all was good. Then after 2-3 weeks of growing sometimes I would experience "root snot" so I would cut off the endings of the roots with the snot and it would start to grow again and all was good but these 2-3 weeks without roots growing at the beginning with the root snot hindering the growth for another week would not make it worth it and I ended up switching to growing in soil. I would love to get back to hydro but I just cannot change or clean the reservoirs, not even once during the grow which wasn't necessary when growing with peroxide but I worry about the bacteria, I suppose they die off sometimes and I am not sure if the other living bacteria would get rid of them. ALso at the staret when the plants have barely a few roots, wouldn't the bacteria in the reservoir just die off causing a rot? Thank you for any info on this.
@myhobbygrow4 ай бұрын
First off, thank you for watching and commenting. Really appreciate the support. I have been growing in hydroponics for going on 4 years. I grow from seed to harvest in the same system. The only real time I've had problems with root rot and or root slime is when trying to start the plants in one system, or have cuttings started then move them. As for cleaning my system...I never clean it during a grow. Actually between my last grow and the one that just finished I never cleaned it. Now I did rinse it out, and start with clean lids, hydroton, baskets, and airstones. Normally though I clean with hot soapy water between grows. When a new hydroponic system is first set up it takes a few days to a week to level out and get the bacteria right. Like a new fish tank. The water is going to get cloudy, might smell a little funny, but if you let it be, it clears up and then it's good to grow in. Then I just drain the system and refill with a fresh nutrient solution weekly from about week 4 of veg through flower. Each time I do that I add my beneficial bacteria. I have never used hydrogen peroxide and run a bacterial based hydroponic system. Knock on wood, I'm able to run successfull grows with water temps 78-80 in a non sterile system. While my experiences are my own, I fully believe it's easier to run a system like I do, than trying to be completely sterile. Want to see more? Find me on Instagram. Thanks again!
@esk8spirit3624 ай бұрын
@@myhobbygrow Thank you for the reply. By cleaning the reservoir I actually meant whether you drain it during the grow because I don't and with a sterile environment I never had to and I would like to keep it that way. I might try running one system and try to dial it in whether it works but I think I will stick with soil and bio nutrients in the end. As you say I have the same experience with moving plants from one system to another... Like having one box where I let rooted cuttings form more roots and then move them to a bigger system... something always happens, they stop growing, get root rot etc... with soil I can start them out in small containers in a small box and when I harvest my main box I can already be putting several weeks old plants into it going into bloom within a week. So all the speed and extra harvest a hydro system would give me is lost on those several more weeks the plants need to be in veg. Anyway, thank you again, much appreciated for the info.

Very nice setup! Ive had systems very similar to yours. Then I changed 1 thing to help with drainage. I put the Bulkheads on the bottom of the buckets, only 1/2". I use the same rack you use, I just cut a few bars underneath for the inlets. The drain is an over flow in a grommet rather then a bulkhead to a Main drain line back to the res. I use a tiny pump 5w because I only need to pump the solution up 18"-20". Its on a interval timer on 2 minutes off 5 to keep temps down. I only have a 3 site system but only run 2. 3 overgrows my 2x4 space quickly. System holds 6-7 gallons. I let the empty bucket run to add more water volume. The bottom fill makes draining very easy, no pumps needed. I do remove the 5w pump to speed up the back flow, thats my 1 draw back. Use 1 pump to start a siphon in the res then turn it off, I used gravity every way I can. Once again great job!
@myhobbygrow5 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching and commenting. When I initially set it up, I really thought about going through the bottom of the bucket. If I ever design a new system I probably would. Easier for cleaning too. I do like the waterfall action though of my feed line as it helps keep the water oxygenated.

Hey, I am planing my first hydro setup rigth now and saw your Video about Slow Sand basically removing the need for a wather cooler and eliminating root rot. I was wondering if it still has proven as a good Solution so far? Would this also eleminte the need for wather cooling in a grow closet in summer, my room gets up to 34 degrees Celsius (93 degrees fahrenheit) on some days but so far i have manged to keep the temps inside the closet below 26 degrees celcius ( 78 degrees farenheit) ? I could also try to place it inside the closet if it doesnt need to be that big. I have 2 20 Liter Buckets Right now (Around 5 gallons each). So i was wondering how much Sand i would need? Is there any thing else i should consider? Would realy apprecate any tipps and Input. Thanks in advance. Sry for my Bad english i hope you understand my questions.
@myhobbygrow5 ай бұрын
Sand filter doesn't replace a chiller or claim to eliminate root rot. Just tries to create an environment which root rot can't take hold. I don't run a chiller and my water temps are as high as 80f during grows. I don't run sterile and manage to bring plants to harvest free of root rot. Without a chiller or sand filter.

there are some filter cardrigdes from say xiaomi air purifiers around, you can just suck through them by putting a intake hose into them with a plate or something, yes you will loose some pressure but you basically clean your room air then with class h13 or something
