Down in Tacoma, wanted so badly to go out last night, get away from the city lights and try to watch or capture the lights. Didn't think the skies were going to be clear enough, so canx plans. So glad to see your cameras caught the show. Thanks for publishing.

Notice the mountains on the left side of the video. See how they seem to “lift”? these distant mountains as it approaches sunset? According to Wikipedia, this is known as “looming” atmospheric refraction where the angle of incidence of light is bending as it interacts with the air of the atmosphere. Really cool.

Where was this video filmed?? I'm in Seattle and I wanna see it, but this night is going to be rainy, so I think its not gonna be possible.

I saw this from Seattle. Happened to take a couple shots right at the height of this - around 2:46 am. Was spectacular. My first time seeing the northern lights!

This is the best way to visualize how a superior mirage is possible. So basically, it is the same principles, in a minor scale, when there's winter and you have the heater on, and you open the window and you see how everything shakes, such as a skyline, or the stars.

And somehow this is the evidence to show how refraction makes the Boston or Chicago skyline jump thr curve perfectly? I literally don’t get how the refraction argument continues to be used As if it’s from God Himself . It’s weird

If you really want to see this comet in its full glory, and you have an image intensifier monocular or binocular, with it you will see it in green light and its magnificent tail will stand out in very clearly. My Russian Cyclop-1 monocular IR, with 5 to 7 presses of the power button to charge the image tube reveals it very clearly, even better than with normal light binoculars. I think that since this Russian unit converts IR to visible green it then adds it to ambient light and the image is much brighter than otherwise. Any ambient light and IR image intensifier will do it perhaps even better than my Russian Cyclop-1 unit. This morning with my unit, and with four fingers, arm outstretched I estimated a tail length of just over 5 to 6 degrees. This comet may go down as a "Great Comet" come later in the month.

@@skunkbayweather Thanks for your response. I like this video as it shows how the superior mirage works throughout the day. Sometimes you see the houses and sometimes you don't. I am going to do a video in the future about mirages and how they affect observations of objects in the distance. One of the things I do is debunk flat earth nonsense. There are numerous flat earthers who claim that they can see a distance shoreline from many miles away but they don't realize that refactory properties of mirages allow them to see below the horizon giving the illusion of flatness. Your video clearly shows changes throughout the day and I assume the tides are less than 5 feet or so. Would I be able to use this footage with your permission for an upcoming video. I will give you credit to include a link to your channel as well. Thank you. Jeffrey Brown

@@volcanoimagec.a.5881 Flat Earthers love to use this footage as proof of "looming" (which of course it is - caused by refraction) but at the same time they love to deny that refraction can and does cause light to curve as it comes up over the horizon. Did you make a video using this footage?

Hi Bonnie. This is from 2017. I just did a blog on my site about King tides and I needed some footage of a high tide. This was from my archives. The blog is at: skunkbayweather.blogspot.com/2018/12/tis-season-for-king-tides-what-could.html
