Absolutely classless Detroit pistons fans throwing trash at one of the main reasons the nba was thriving in “87. You don’t throw trash at Larry Bird. Sheer cowardice and absolute i d i o c y. Glad Bird nailed Laimbeer with a few good shots and the ball before he left.

Phoenix was 3-0 in that series, Houston was on the verge of getting swept until they made a come back. Following seasons playoff of 95 Houston found themselves in the same situation against Phoenix

Even Though The Celtics Starters Were Full Of Injuries, Take Note Piston Lovers, THEY STILL LOST IN THIS PLAYOFFS TO THE CELTICS. And A Player with The Pistons Came Clean & Said; Laimbeer Told His Buddies In The Locker Room That He Would Be The One To Take OUT Larry. He Could Have Broke Larry's Back OR A Leg Doing That, And Laimbeer Is A POS For Trying To Really Take Larry Out For Good. I Would Have Bet That The Pistons Would NOT Have Won This Game If They Didn't Try Hurt Bird. They Only Won Because They Got Him Out.

37 years later, and I still feel like putting my foot through the screen watching these Pistons. Couldn't stand them. Especially Dantley. Vinnie Johnson too. The ugliest outside shot in NBA history, worse than LeBron's. Just a line drive. Laimbeer and Rodman, two of the dirtiest players in league history, and Isaiah one of the cockiest. The only likable guys on the entire roster were Dumars and Salley. They were a little more likable the next season, when Mark Aguirre replaced Dantley and James Buddha Edwards. I liked both Edwards and Aguirre. As a diehard Celtics fan, I actually rooted for the Lakers in the 1988 Finals, but rooted for Detroit the next season. 88 was the one and _only_ time I've ever rooted for the Lakers. But, I always respected the Lakers franchise, until LeBron wound up there. Has anyone else ever noticed that *every single time* McHale gets an "and one", the first thing he does is ask the ball boy for a towel to wipe his hands? And Bird always rubbing the bottom of his shoes! Also, McHale being the loudest guy of all time. I didn't hear it in this game, but there were so many times I'd hear him yell "ohhhh Jesus Christ" when he felt someone was going over his back for a rebound. It's hilarious!

Laimbeer did not deliberately take Bird down. Watch it at 1/4 speed, and you will see it was Rodman's leg that flew up and knocked Laimbeer into a falling Bird. Complicated dynamics, but clear enough. Bird understandably thought Laimbeer attacked him, but he was wrong.
@MaximusWolfe19 күн бұрын
False. Laimbeer clearly uses his upper body to cause a close line effect on a player he knew to be in an awkward, compromised and vulnerable state. He was one of the dirtiest players in league history (a fact well known to his peers) and knew how to do it such a way as to fool t w i t s like u.

I never knew there was this big hoolahoo regarding David Robinson before he came to the NBA. Really interesting stuff! In all walks of life including in sport, you get penalized when you react to provocation. I wish Bird had connected with that right hook and knocked out that fool Laimbeer. It's really not surprising that a lot of people around the NBA didn't like him.

When it comes to the 80's - something that I don't think people remember is that Milwaukee moved from the Midwest Division in the Western Conference to the Central Division and the Eastern Conference in 79/80. It's a sneaky big thing cause though the Lakers would have still dominated the decade - if Milwaukee was still in the west they may have been able to challenge the Lakers years after year opposed to the random Suns Nuggets Spurs Mavericks Rockets year after year. Other than the Celtics and Sixers the Lakers had no rival in the west in the 80's. The Bucks could have been that team to compete with showtime in the 80's.

Dantley destroyed Bird
@MaximusWolfe6 ай бұрын
No he didn’t. Bird played much better than Dantley overall (had a triple double). Basketball is a lot more than individual scoring. And that’s part of what made Bird the goat. Even if his shot wasn’t falling he’d beat you 7 other ways.
