Okay, so the rock you are looking at on the beach, the alteration is due to groundwater mixing nearshore. The tuff cones are not volcanoes, they are late stage phreatomagmatics, clustered on the SE rift zone of the Koolau volcano. I could nitpick on some other stuff, but you’re close enough. It’s important to get people thinking about geology; it affects nearly every aspect of our lives, especially here in Hawaii.

That's pretty cool!..I blow borosilicate glass and the only thing that I would say is to keep the glass at an even temperature due to the fact that it was not annealed!..I'm sure you probably already know that!..thank you for sharing all this neat info!🤠⛏️🤘🌵

Does Halite melt in a humid temperature!?
@ProfessorTravis5 ай бұрын
Yes, when it's humid halite will dissolve. I used to live in Louisiana and I had a small cube on a shelf that slowly dissolved over a couple of years.

Hey thanks for this video, really needed that confirmed. I do collect crystal specimens but I really like polished massive stuff because I like playing with my rocks. I was reading some new agey stuff and they were saying terminated materials were superior but I thought "hmmm isn't massive quartz just lots of small crystals growing together?" And you just clarified that for me. It's strangely hard to get this kind of simple info in laypersons terms as a collector.

You're right, a majority of US lithium mining is done on dry lake beds in the southwest, with higher margins than mining lepidolite from pegmatites. The Stewart Lithia in Pala, CA started out as a lepidolite mine but is far more known for the world-class elbaite tourmaline specimens that have been discovered there. It is also one of the most mapped gem mines in North America.

What type of light acid did you use??
@ProfessorTravis8 ай бұрын
HCl 10%. Vinegar will also work(which is 5% acetic acid). You can also find "extra strength" vinegar that's 10%.
