The new version of this song is my favorite Tegan and Sara song, one of my favorite and most relatable songs I’ve ever heard in my 39 years I don’t know why I’ve never listened to the demo before but it’s incredible, amazing how much of the song especially the lyrics are almost totally the same

I enjoy the new version. But... The guitar that winds up and kicks in at 1:40 hits me so good. The new version feels more melancholic, more subdued, sadder. There's more power and force in this version. It feels frustrated and anger at the situation. I understand the change. After an extra 20-25 years of life I'd be amazed if anyone still felt completely in sync with their teenage selves. So maybe the new version is more authentic to them now, emotionally and musically. But I still feel more connection to this old demo, the messy bundle of conflicting emotions, and how that energy comes through musically. I enjoy the pop, but I feel this.

I wonder why Tegan and Sara are so self-deprecating about these early recordings. They're really special in their own simplicity. It's the kind of thing you'd listen to, laying in your bedroom as a teen, head shaved, and dreaming about your future.

my sister had some of these on her 2nd gen mini iPod from a friend from canmore, alberta. i would steal this iPod for my weekends and listen to T&S on repeat. can't believe some of this made it to the new album! all of these are so good!

well, it's great that this version of the song is still here, the new one is something totally different. different emotion, different tune. unfortunately they can't accept that not everything has to be synth-pop

You also have to realize that they are their own people. This might sound really bad and cringey to them despite it sounding “superior” to their “fans” because to them they wrote it so long ago. I know for me writing music I hate the songs I wrote in high school and I actively rewrite or reuse old lyrics for new songs to sound more current or less cringey. I agree that the new recordings don’t come close to the feel or the sound that these demos offer, but thinking of them as their own stand alone songs I do really like the 80s synth pop recordings because if you really think about it would that not have been the sound the young twins were always going for? Yes the whole “high school years” thing is kind of click bait, but god forbid the twins want to sell music in 2019. God forbid musicians try to be popular. Just my two cents.

I love all their songs. However, for times of reflection, this raw type of lyricism is so unique and emotive. I can't thank you enough for posting this; you've given me years of happy memories.
