Jack represents everything wrong with the Cycle, and why it could never achieve what the Entities want. Jack is pretty much the embodiment of the Shard's ideals and goals, spreading conflict and destruction and generally enshittening the world as much as he can. This produces lots of novel situations and conflicts, creates all sorts of triggers and second triggers, yet ultimately achieves nothing and is usually more self destructive than anything. Sphere was potentially on route to figuring out something with his specialty, yet thanks to the mechanisms of the Entities he became a force actively seeking to ensure no one can ever even seriously try to go down paths that might actually provide the Entities with useful data. Jack kills more capes than he creates, and twists the ones he gets his hands on into forces of destruction, or in other words, forces of _entropy,_ the exact thing his benefactors want to defeat. Because of their shocking lack of creativity and shortsightedness despite being such long lived creatures, the Entities destroy everything that might potentially solve their problems.

It's still so insane to me that a Pact + Joanna Newsom AMV exists. With my favorite Joanna Newsom song (and one of my favorite songs in general) as the featured track, no less. Thank you immensely, Glowspiders. This is the coolest. I'm very curious about the beautiful frame of the eerie book at around 0:39. I don't recall which book that might be. Any chance another Pact-enjoyer could help me out?

Thanks so much! I love Joanna Newsom too and the song just seemed to fit perfectly :) the book is the one that Kathryn Thorburn reads in 15.1 that turns her into a bogeyman

Contessa and Doctor Mother are my absolute favorite characters in Worm, the fact that they were willing to commit atrocities just so humanity has the chance to even have a shred of survival is fascinating.

It's kind of funny and kind of sad to realize that most of their actual atrocities were completely pointless, in the end. They must have moralized to themselves with 'the ends will justify our means' but all of their vile means led literally nowhere at Golden Morning. They got lucky to even contribute as much as they did: two of their capes were useful to a natural trigger altered by another natural trigger. Completely unplanned, unexpected, and practically nothing to do with their years of effort and monstrous acts. There are a lot of ways they were arrogant, prideful, and kind of dumb. Their over-reliance on Contessa's power, just to start....

@@christophkogler6220 In defense of Contessa, she got her power when she was still a kid so it made sense for her to be kinda like a machine. And I do agree which makes it even sadder, they were genuinely trying to help and make sure everyone had a shred of survival against Scion going laser piss blast at the world, but as a result slowly detached themselves from their original identity, Hero dying most likely contributed this since he was the heart of the group. Him dying might have made them more jaded and grayer than before.

@@Upstairs_Insect Despite how I phrased that final sentence, I don't blame Contessa much. She was very young when the entities arrived, saw some crazy visions and got one of the strongest powers possible, then helped stab a god and dedicated her life to killing the other. She needed someone to give her moral guidance when her power's next step was 'just murder half of them lol', and instead got 'Doctor Mother'. Of course she ended up totally broken and with barely any moral compass. I tend to think Doctor Mother was an egomaniac, or had some other screw loose. Choosing the moniker Doctor Mother is kind of ridiculous.
