good solid advice overall ,some of the things you say i do disagree with though as from what i've seen from the shot you seem to be using a len on the wider side but not really wide enough to be stylistic which for me at least doesnt really look cinematic, like theres a time and place for everything yes, but using a lens with not that much background compression really just weight down a perfectly good shot that had much more potential, maybe if it was a 75 or a 50 or something would've been more cinematic (in my opinion)* since a few of your shots just feels like kinda souless? i guess? like something just doesnt fit and also gear really does matter, like try using a phone or a zve10 or something to try and recreate a shot from a movie that you used as an example it's possible but it's gonna be damn hard for sure since let's be real here the demographic of people who are gonna watch a video like this are likely beginners or hobbiest with a affordable camera body, kit lens a sandisk 64 gb v30 card or hell maybe even just a phone it's not impossible but it's gonna defitnitly be hard, note that im not actually trying to insult anyone but this is just the most conveniant way to get my point across, since the video has very good and solid advice these are just the only kinda arguable things i picked up from the video
@nickoloui2 ай бұрын
@@Coppersulfate9009 thanks for your comment. That’s pretty much spot on, yeah. Gear doesn’t really matter is a sentence I use that always comes with an asterisk. Of course I agree that there’s situations in which a phone will take you so far, or a beginner camera even, at which point you have no option but to upgrade to something more capable. I like to use the analogy of: you can’t make a fish climb a tree. It just won’t happen. You can do what you can do with what’s at hand and that’s that. Although I agree on your comment about my soulless shots, I need to disagree that it has anything to do with focal length or whether or not you have enough compression. There’s a great deal of pro DP’s out there who never shoot anything above 35 and their work is insanely good. Think Emmanuel Lubezki. I iterated this point in the video, and I will likely make a video in the future about this but - focal length does not determine if something looks cinematic or not to me at least. Compression helps for sure and beautiful bokeh but, it’s not end all be all! Thanks again, I’m Happy to have conversations with people on here, I don’t expect everyone to agree with what I say because 1. It’s unrealistic and 2. It’s pretentious. Everyone has their own way of doing things. I’m just sharing mine.

Gear doesn't matter is not exactly true i have a very budget phone, don't have a camera or any accessories but want to create cinematic videos. so i tried some times, finally done couple of cinematic reel (beginner level) but the phone can't support me anymore. it doesn't have video auto focus can't operate 3rd party camera app properly, sometime missing some frames in videos. Gear doesn't matter is just a encourages line who have enough or can arrenge substitute for that purpose of filming or photography
@nickoloui2 ай бұрын
@@wild_india_photography hey and thanks for your comment. Brother I can link you to a dozen of videos filmed entirely on iphone and I guarantee it will blow your mind. Now, with that said, it’s 2024. Assuming you don’t have something like a Nokia from early 2000’s, then your phone is definitely good enough to shoot great footage. It’s not to say that you should stick to it, if you can get something better like a camera then by all means you should. However the point I’m trying to get across is that far too many people obsess so much about shooting something and it being 100% finished as soon as you hit stop recording. It’s not the case. You must learn more aspects to the pipeline. Learn to edit, learn to colour grade, learn to stabilise your footage. It is unfathomable how much more you can do after-the-fact to get your footage to a better level. I’m not just trying to encourage people with that line, it’s the truth. Of course you need to be smart about it. You can’t expect to charge clients thousands of dollars and show up with a phone on set. Context is important. I think it goes without saying that this video is more about the ‘art’ of the thing, rather than the technicals of it. When I say gear doesn’t matter, it’s likely because you haven’t learned to push yourself to the absolute max with a) the gear itself, and b) with post-production. Get comfortable with these first, then worry about gear. That’s my advice, from personal experience. I don’t know what phone you have but not having autofocus in this time and age sounds wild to me. What phone are you using may I ask?
@wild_india_photography2 ай бұрын
@@nickoloui currently I am using Vivo y15c. And it's not like it doesn't have auto focus but it just doesn't show its face in the video mode. If you want to see my work you can see my best work in 2nd last short I posted.
@nickoloui2 ай бұрын
@@wild_india_photography I just had a quick look. It's good work. My advice would be to just keep shooting every day, as much as you can, take your phone out and take pictures and videos whenever you see something that catches your eye. But always challenge yourself and ask the question: "OK, this is nice, but how can I make it better? How would a professional take this?" Take the time to pause, and really think. We all have the same rectangular 2D space to work with. But how you present your art has limitless possibilities. Own your craft. The only way to do that is to put a ridiculous amount of time into it.
