Karak Highway (more properly known as the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway) itself has an infamous reputation for being haunted, and had been the site of several major traffic accidents as well, including a particularly serious one in 1990 that involved 12 vehicles and took the lives of 17 people. As for the Yellow Volkswagen, legend has it that it would appear to people driving down the highway late at night, which would approach from behind them, overtake their vehicle, and then move into their lane and slow down, forcing them to slow their vehicle as well. Those who attempt to overtake the Yellow Volkswagen will often find it in front of them again further up ahead (tho some versions of the legend state that the Yellow Volkswagen will speed up from behind and cut back in front of the driver’s vehicle instead). When drivers try to get a better look at who’s driving the Yellow Volkswagen, they will be shocked to see that there’s nobody in the driver’s seat. Some versions of the legend claims that attempting to overtake the Yellow Volkswagen will invite ill fortune for the driver: their vehicle may break down, or they may become involved in an accident that may turn out to be fatal. As such, there are those who believe that seeing the Yellow Volkswagen itself is portending bad luck. I actually only learned about this urban legend some years back, even though I live down here in Singapore, the city-state that’s just south of Malaysia. The Karak Highway itself is a well-used route for those going to the resort town of Genting, a popular destination for Malaysians and Singaporeans alike, among other major destinations. It’s definitely an interesting urban legend tho, and I definitely would want to hear more about it - I wonder if people from my own country have seen it while driving up to Genting themselves.
