1. Emotional depth: I’m in constant thirst for some connection and sharing thoughts with emotional depth, not worrying about the other person retreating from it or me. 2. Listener: I listen to the other person talk 90% of the time or until they stop to ask why I’m so quiet. I’m like, well, I was just waiting for you to stop and ask what I thought. Did I do something wrong? LoL 3. Respect for personal space: I am willing to share my personal space with anyone whose energy dances well with mine. I’ll roll out the red carpet for them and lead them to my favourite armchair. Otherwise, I can interact with “incompatibles” at my front door but with the screen door closed between us. 4. Patience: This is like water to a bar of soap. I can’t make suds and lather without it. 5. Authenticity: Like a dog who can hear a dog whistle from a “mile” away, I can detect authenticity, too, even when it seems to be shrouded in emotion. I’ll stop here. Thanks!

This is such an interesting topic to me. For the longest time, I would have described myself as an extrovert; for much of my life, I felt like I was the “live wire” at a gathering. As I approached 60, I came to realize that I was actually an introvert, using an extroverted exterior to “get through” events. I began to understand that the exhaustion I felt after a social or work event was because I constantly felt like I was “on stage,” having to live up to expectations. I’d say I’m predominantly a thinking introvert, but I have a little social and a large dose of anxious in there, too-very little restrained in there, though. Interesting to think about. Thanks for laying this out in such a well-organized fashion!
@quietmindspodcastАй бұрын
Hi there! I enjoyed reading your comment! Honestly I am hearing that often, people becoming who they needed to be just to fit in so to speak. To meet the social expectations society puts upon our shoulders. But it becomes draining and depleting, "pretending" to be who we truly aren't, and takes a lot of time and energy. So I totally understand what you are saying and I know other people reading your words will definitely relate as well. I appreciate your openness on the topic. Also grateful you found my my channel! I have lots more to share. Thank you again, looking forward to chatting again on different topics! :)

Thank-you, Vanessa, this helps a lot, and arrives at an important time for me. I'm currently facing a high-risk, necessary surgery. I just signed consent on Thursday. My medical history is long and complicated; this will be my 13th surgery. Anxiety has of course, now come to roost. Beyond my spouse and sister, I don't want anyone to know, because, and you hit the nail on the head here, I need time to process. Also, talking with others before the surgery, especially when I haven't yet fully come to terms with it, only serves to make me even more anxious. I know that whenever I see people who I've told, they will tend to have questions which are not welcome. So thank you, for giving me a really good reason for doing what I'm already instinctively doing. ❤❤❤
