It's tricky, it needs to be firm enough to hold its shape, but wet enough to work still. If there are many steps, the first ones end up sagging a bit and the end ones are too hard to make look super good, so the middle steps are the only ones you can be proud of. The last steps I did had 27 steps and 2 giant landings, and it was 100 degrees that day.

Really like your work on this. It was fast and easy to watch, but honestly, with the quality and amount of hand work, expertly done, I would have watched it at normal speed. Particularly good job on the restoring the CRAFTSMAN logo by hand. As I watched it during that hand work on a lot of the parts, I could tell, this vise was a family treasure, not a flea market find, as it looked like you wanted every letter to be done right. I own my father's first Lineman's vise off the back of his lineman service truck. I am not capable of such quality work, but a great friend of mine took it on and rebuilt it for me while we were neighbors in Eastern Texas.... I have retired, and moved to the Philippines with a new family we adopted / and are raising here, and I packed that big beast wrapped in old blankets and shipped it here. It still sits proudly in my work shop, your video had me smiling the whole way through!! Great Job.

@VanDamArtisan10 күн бұрын
@@joanglover3437 someone commented that American standard has life time warranties. Check on that and you may get a new one free. If you fix the crack, it's not completely necessary to grind it open. Just make sure it's clean and dry and get super glue that's as runny as possible. I'd suggest a couple coats with just glue before you include any making soda, just to be sure it gets as deep as possible.

Works great for a flat straight wall with no slants for a doorway. Just finished doing mine and the doorway with angles and absolute precise measurements and cuts are hell. Also helps if you have 9 ft ceilings because the sheets of this you buy at Lowes are 4x8. If you have 8ft ceilings you will need to cut each piece to compensate for molding on top/bottom unless you plan to just remove them. Utility knife will not cut this either, it's like textured cardboard in the middle almost like cloth so you will need a saw. Used oscillating saw for plug ins and it worked great. The grout is far darker than real grout so grab you some grey paint, Lowes will tell you it's unpaintable but it's not and it looks great if you take your time and pay attention to detail on it. Good Luck, it's worth it.

How come the bottom step doesn't overflow when you're pouring the whole thing? Looks great, thanks for the video.
@VanDamArtisan4 ай бұрын
Honestly, it does a bit. The more you work with the upper steps the more it sort of vibrates down. The trick is to get each step flat from top to bottom and let it sit for a while before the edgers and trowels are used. Sometimes the grade has to be adjusted as you go. Take away concrete from the bottom and add it back to the top. Eventually it stops sagging, which is basically when you pull the forms off and finish the face.
