Even as a bassist and bass lover myself, I completely agree with it being the most useless in a band MOST of the time. When there is a well written, booming bass sound though, it definitely adds more to the song that any drum part or most guitar parts

@devlintaylor952019 күн бұрын
I mean it isnt completely incorrect though. Most bands mix the bass poorly (especially in genres like metal). You have to actively search for bands with audible bass.

@@devlintaylor9520 Hi! Audio engineer & Mixing student at Berklee College of Music. The reason why bass is so hard to be noticed in songs is due to most streaming services “Luff Limiter”. This reduces the amount of luffs (or volume) a song can have in the mix before the streaming service turn it down by turning EVERYTHING down. This is not good, as turning everything down sounds horrible (trust me, I know from experience 🫠). Bass is a very big sound, and as such needs more volume to be more noticeable: however we can’t turn the bass up high and reduce everything else because then it sounds bad. If you do want more bass in your songs I’d recommend just turning the bass up in your streaming service. You can do this on Spotify by going to settings, playback, equalizer, and bass booster! If you’re driving you can also turn up bass in your car! Hope this helps!

I collect pre EB MusicMan basses and make spare necks and preamps so I know these basses really well. Of all of the pre EB basses the '79's are regarded as the most prone to neck issues due to how the rods were installed. They however they have the most stable non draining preamps of that era and do match the epoxy covered ones and can be repaired easily. The later Grover Jackson produced necks from 80-82 are the best of the pre EB necks as they don't discolour and are very stable. The EB truss rod wheel (used off an old Vox idea) is excellent and really help us luthiers and they rarely break. I'm personally not a huge fan of figured neck woods but the Birds Eye is a good fit imo. EB have done a good job on the bass with improvements in the bridge alignment and the longevity of the preamp circuit.

This is the first time I've heard such detailed information about the Pre EB Stingrays, thank you very much! When I bought mine second-hand in 1991, I went to a large music store to get information. Even then, I was told that the old Stingrays had problems with the neck. Luckily, mine has been spared from this so far. To this day, the neck can be adjusted well and since I put new frets on it in the early 2000s, there has been no buzzing.

93 is really part of the peak years of those basses. Beautiful figured necks, top quality everything. They don't make them like that today - not at all.
