great video, your thoughts on this bike vs the v4?
@KevinBowers_Pnw_ducrider
@KevinBowers_Pnw_ducrider Жыл бұрын
They are two different beasts. The V4 is smoother and in all honesty you can ride faster and more consistently. The 1299R is going to require a lot more from you and probably not as fast in terms of lap times and ease of effort. But, the 1299R is more of an experience. So it comes down to how you’re riding. If you’re a track rider looking for lap times, V4. Of you rode street and hit twisties and want a bike that will but a smile on your face every time, 1299R

1299FE in my opinion is the pinnacle of Planigale’s. If I was a rich man I would prefer the 1299 SL any day over the new V4 Planigale’s. I still LOVE my 1199 it has done so well over the last nearly 5 years for me. Next bike for me would definitely be a 1299. One question on your 1299FE when you upgraded from the stock exhaust with the huge Cat can, did you have to do an up map for this?
@KevinBowers_Pnw_ducrider
@KevinBowers_Pnw_ducrider Жыл бұрын
Couldn’t agree more. I had a chance at a 1199 SL and i regret not getting it. The 1299 SL is just it’s own monster and that’s the pinnacle to me. The FE was as close to it as I could get and I loved every second of it. The race exhaust for the FE came with an upmap. I think it was just an update done from the dealer, not the USB that the 1199 had. The upmap wasn’t perfect and a custom tune would be the best way to go. The FE made 193hp at the rear wheel with the stock exhaust. Would have been well over 200hp at the wheel with the full system. I just never took it back to find out.

Thanks for the video, it's helpful. I had a new V4S and unfortunately totaled it recently due to some unexpected sand across a mountain road. I have a V4SP on order, but I'm actually thinking of pulling the trigger on a 1299FE instead. I really don't like the V4 motor...it's completely lacking midrange and torque. I've been spoiled by the RC51 and Aprilia Tuono. The Aprilia V4 is superior to Ducati's in every way. I'm hoping this 1299 FE will give me that grunt and hard pull from any rpm that I miss.

It will definitely give you that. On my IG and in earlier videos you’re going to want to get the exhaust, a tune or something to really let that engine breathe. Becomes a completely new animal. I think it’s one of the best superbikes Ducati has made. I also had a V4 Speciale and while I did enjoy it, I always felt it was missing the rawness or the anger the L twin engine had

Martin Rasmussen that’s odd. Did they upload the upmap correctly? Mine was butter smooth after the race exhaust was installed. Since that was the only L2 that was euro 4 complaint i can imagine there might be a few hang ups. I’d have them take the upmap off and reload it. See if there are any updates. I’d also ask them to calibrate the TPS, it’s helped smooth things out with bikes I had in the past.

Hi Kevin. I got my 1299 final edition last week. Did you get an owner manual? Does the chain grease drip on your exhaust? How did you adjust gear lever? To me that seems like an engineering error...

yes I got an owner manual, your dealer should have given you one. The grease does drop down its a problem all Panigales have had. The there some adjustment for the gear lever but not much, if you really want to be able to adjust them you'll probably need to go aftermarket.

Nice review. Your spot on mate. Ducati's mis behave with their stock systems , all in the name of these god damn euro requirements. You have to throw an after market system on them to cure the hesitation they can have. Ducati twins have a rawness to them , enthusiasts love it, some riders not so much. I think the V4 has gone down the road of the Japanese, supremely powerful, smooth and brilliant but lacks that rawness. Love your bike and I wouldn't change it for V4 . There's more character/ personality in your bike

Panigale having torque? well sure it have but have you ridden the older ducs like 1x98? The Panigale is very hihg revving for a V/L-twin. But one thing I think is funny with Ducatistas. First they say that they love the shaking, rattling and vibrating that a v-twin is at low rpm ie being lumpy and making fun of 4 cyl powered bikes but now they praise the Panigale V4 for being smooth at those revs? Okey :D

I have flogged a few sport ducs, from 748,996, 848 corse something,1098 and 1199 panigale s. The v4 I have only ridden just for 5 mins so I cant say much about it but that it felt bigger then the org Panigale making it harder for me to flatfoot the ground. But anyway, it was not a attack on you or anything but more like that the Panigale does not really have the same brutal feeling as say 1x98 had. I much prefer the more modern sit position on the Panigale but it was no brute that the old trellis framed superbike was.

Scott Lincoln that’s a tough one. They make their power in such a different way. The FE still has that massive midrange and just revs. It’s raw and makes you work for it. The V4 I’m sure is faster and easier to ride around a track, well with a pro rider. Head to head? It would be close, very close.

Nice review...I have had a highly modified 1299s for about 1 year now and love the way it delivers the power. It has more torque through the range than any bike I've ever owned, and it is not shy about unleashing it. I recently test rode a stock V4s and it is really a totally different bike with regard to power. Much smoother throughout the range and seemed a little more graceful in power delivery and handling. My dealer did a dyno on my 1299s and the V4s, same day, and my 1299 pulled 179hp at the wheel, V4s pulled 181hp at wheel. Not much difference in power, just how it delivers. I think it really boils down to the rider and their preference. For me, V4s would be a preferred street/commuter bike, and the 1299s would be better for me on track.
