I've got the pp version same year I bought new. Remember calling the company and complaining about the bar flopping around. They sent me the 2 hole side cover for free, thought that was cool. The 20" bar is laughable with the stock muffler. But muffler mod, remove the sleeve in the exhaust port and the saw really wakes up. Recently picked up a 4218 strato cheap to port. The amount of work I had to do to the 42 to make it as fast as the 46 was pretty funny. Then just ported the 46 and it is the fastest again. What I think is hilarious is that the 46 doesn't put out enough bar oil to suite me and the 42 puts out to much. A piece of hvac tape on the outside of the bar helps.
@reddogsaws17 күн бұрын
@kraftzion I might have to do that with the tape, the strato saw are quite rare to find as we have a pretty relaxed epa laws here on importation we still can get 25 to 1 two stroke equipment, got a buggered mcculloch 2818av I can steal the side cover off which is the same saw

Saw these at Bunnings a couple of weeks ago,these are designed for the Australian market as they can be run on 40:1 to meet emissions criteria.Very heavy saw for what it is and slightly overpriced at $299.00 but I suppose if it is used accordingly (home use only)it shouldn’t be too bad ,it felt very cheaply made to me.

Thinking of getting one of these chainsaws for home /firewood use ,I have no intention of doing any modifications as I don’t have your knowledge or experience ,I would get it with the 16 inch bar and chain as per Jono and Johno website specs,I am one of your subscribers here in Melbourne, Australia-what do you think?regards.
@reddogsaws28 күн бұрын
16 in more like 14 inch of bar but you have to know what you're doing when you get to this class of the chainsaws such a short bar I recommend a 20-in it's a good all rounder for most people including me, the 16 in is handy as I can fit it in the front wheel well of the 75 landcruiser. And i also known you were a subscriber I also like talking to you when I get the chance too👍

It didn't seemed to be bogging down, so I'm guessing either the chain wasn't very sharp or the rakers needs filed down a little. I don't know what the high revs should be on it. But with it not bogging down, that's a good sign. Tough little saw. 😎👍
@reddogsawsАй бұрын
I like to set them at 10,000 rpms it's got a new chain with a factory edge these prokut chains are always high in the rakers (0.35)when they new I think it needs a good hand file 👍

i think you're supposed to lock the throttle on when starting these
@reddogsawsАй бұрын
Most saws yes, but this old reed carburetor chainsaws like this xxv family of saws have an odd starting procedure as written on the fuel tank 6 pulls with the choke on holding the trigger down until it fires then 6 Pulls choke open for trigger down until it starts and hold down for a few seconds at full rpm. I don't like doing that, but this saw is a bit of a pain to start
@ArtietheArchonАй бұрын
ok that's just what it says to do on my woodmaster

@ArtietheArchon they are not bad saw, but if you get an older junk xxv, you can swap the non epa muffler and carburettor on to it you easily gain 50%more power as these are the last reed falt engine chainsaw to be made right up to the early 2000s

Looking at them, they much the build quality but I think the older Ozito is a better design in the term of its side panel. but the biggest problem with these saws that EPA regulated with a catalytic converter, but if you run the right fuel and oil mix (50-1 synthetic) they will still cut a green tree up no problems
