@XahLee Do a review after 8 months of use. I was considering Charybdis MK2 keyboard. Svalboard looks tempting. Two things I don't like about it: the price is too high & it's not wireless.

why it cant be fixed? to me it seems more a problem that its blocked than syntax, the syntax for multi line lambda was simply not implemented. but i think i can see your point about syntax being the most important. if the syntax is not available to express it, you cant do it or you have to make more code or cant do it at all. meanwhile lisp n wolfram, uniform syntax, ya can do it aaallllll! thanks, guido. piece of #.

lambda can only be a single line? it's not just broken... it's stillborn.

If you install the nuts and tighten them, the feet are no longer wobbly (per instructions). I do find that it needs a bit more weight and added some weights to keep it from rotating as I type. The outside corners also catch loose long sleeve shirts (I've added some tape). There is also something with the USB implementation that won't pass through NIAP USB HID security filters, so I cannot bring the kbd with me to use in secure locations. I am still hoping I can find a workaround for that but have already spent quite a few $ buying different adapters.

Using Evil mode and drag-stuff, I get the following steps: Start recording macro, drag line down, next line, end recording macro, run till end. Essentially the same as the solution proposed by @rudolf-adamkovic, but I've got it down to 8 movements: `q a C-M-j j q C-u @ a`.
@AryadevChavali28 күн бұрын
Removing the drag-stuff dependency, it's now 9 movements: `q a j C-x C-t q C-u @ a`.

My solution to the line swap problem: Begin recording macro, next line, transpose lines, end recording macro, and run macro until the bell rings. Exactly 10 keystrokes: C-x ( C-n C-x C-t C-x ) C-0 C-x e

great comp scientist. didn't like his work, his style, his creations. eg TeX, literate programing. tried to read his art of programing in 1992 or so. unable to understand it back then. i think i would today, but i have little interest in low level stuff. much prefer proof theory etc. he is supposed to have a chapter on programing languages... but i suppose that'd never come.

For layout, the Hands Down folks are going craaaazy with it. But I'd recommend just sticking with what you know. Dvorak and Colemak are pretty similar, neither is great on bottom row. Better than QWERTY, but the real maniacs are messing around with Hands Down variant layouts, but they're pretty far out. Some people have swapped Dvorak top/bottom rows to improve this, but the biggest gain is in the reduction of motion and force. I still use DH-QWERTY 20+yrs later. If I had to start from scratch I certainly wouldn't choose it, but... it's fine. Exploiting your existing basic top/home/bottom row muscle memory for a layout on Svalboard will be much faster transition than starting from scratch on something new. The folks on 36-key boards generally transition over in a couple of weeks instead of a couple of months. But it took me about 6 weeks when I first learned 20+ yrs ago because I didn't have any experience with using multiple thumb keys.

Thanks for the intro Xah! The reason for the USB cables not being mirrored is just to keep part count down. Maintaining a whole other MCU design just to mirror those connectors would bring a lot of extra inventory hassle and a lot of extra EECAD work for me. Once you get it set up it doesn't matter, of course :) I'm really excited to explore host-side app-context-aware layer stuff -- I'd love to have an auto layer available depending on app context. ZSA has done some neat work on this but it's all closed-source on the host side, so I'm hoping some more folks will join us to do a fully OSS version. I don't want to own it, I just want it to exist for everyone.
