How about cutting out a little on the edge of the side seam so your walking foot goes over the seam without bunching up when you sew up the bottom?

That is a great point. I do that especially when working with firm leather. I should have mentioned it in this video since it's related to the gusset. Thanks for the suggestion! For anyone who sees this in the future, here is a video explaining this (13:58): kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnuygGmqZryEr5Ysi=PuSCCffNErFCu9La&t=838

Hey Corbin. Absolutely loved this tutorial. My mind was boggled trying to figure out how to end up with a wider gusset at the bottom of the bag and still have everything lined up to properly hand stitch it. Now I know. I have watched a ton of tote bag videos and this is the only one I saw that added clarity to this issue. Thank you so much. I really enjoy all of your content!

To fix the design “flaw” you could maybe add a patch of leather to line to bottom to add durability when it rests on the ground and to cover up the part that wraps around the bottom! I personally think it looks great!

thats a great idea! and a good excuse to add more leather haha

Being the "leather" guy, IMO, you should be using the leatherwork for your sewing needs. A ball tip needle would have sewn that just as nice. Call me weird i guess, but sure seems like Sailrite doesn't seem to believe in the machine they promote as the leather workers machine. Very little content for the machine, even from the people selling it. Maybe that says something about the machine.....

This was just as much as a waxed canvas project as it was a leather project, so I used the fabricator since it has a larger table to hold larger assemblies. The leatherwork is perfectly capable of sewing waxed canvas as well, so you make a good point that I could have used that machine to promote it. Thanks for checking out the video and giving some feedback! I wanna make my own hat, but specifically a pointed hat. Yes i wanna look like a witch, but I also want it for shade and cooling. Absolutely inspired by Yemen Goat Herders btw. Look em up, they're pretty cool. Literally lol.
