NEVER let "wall caught" inside a radio. radio guys don't spend any time breaking down what's being done like Mr Scott does. nice to see what's what with all his equipment

Unfortunately I have a radio a radioddity qt-40 i bought used and its previous owner messed with the service menu with only a watt meter and i know for certain its out of alignment badly lol i can't get any contacts on ssb and it only shows 20w peak with a tone The AM high was like 20w dead key the FM will also dead key 40w. My modulation is only showing a peak of 60% and that is with an echomaxx 2000 turned up. Now I did talk locally about 75ish miles about every night this past week and everyone says it sounds great and i only gave $80 for it i just wish there were more radio shops local to me so i wouldn't have to to ship a radio off.

Did you try every method possible to do a factory reset? Another tip, make sure you have the radio totally de-energized (drain all residual power) from the unit as well.

It can be set back up properly.

How are you setting the high and low output levels on the radio?

With software installed in the radio that allows you to adjust settings 😁

Thank you very much, I did purchase the Stryker from you a few years ago, Dec 07 , 2022, also picked up the Astatic Road Devil 4Pin mic. The Mckinley I bought from Knights in the UK. I was hoping I wouldn't have to send it back to the UK. It has the same issue with the plug. No golden screw drivers ever touched my radios! Just where I purchased them from are the ones that touch my radios. I have gotten excellent reports with that Stryker! ☠JR 14 - 8152 NEK VT

Nice working radio . Doing around 80 watts PEP SSB will make great contacts. I did a park to park. NY to UK on 50 watts SSB from a QT 60 with a 25FT vertical and on battery ! Even got a 29 MHZ AM contact same day ! I played with length on my 4:1 25F to tune 1 band. getting under 1.5 SWR . Once I got 1.1 SWR on 27.074 MHZ . Only did that once so far. I get around 1.5 SWR I get on the air. A clean radio makes contacts. Love that new firmware. That RED on TX is great ! 73

Great radio ive had one for 6 weeks now.. heat sink doesnt get hot just warm. Im running it stock on a moxon full wave horizontal. I contacted spain and france australia marshal islands no problem when the conditions are there. It puts out 104 watts pep on ssb and 90 watts AM on my watt meter.
@ScottsRadios4 күн бұрын
Yeah the band conditions are outstanding. I think it was as good if on the last skip cycle but that was many moons ago. I can see my QRZ log book is full of contacts around 10 years ago.

Yea i have heard several on 10 meters saying they are running a kilowatt or 2 kilowatts thats to much for me my 45 watts on the aries ii i got from you does the trick before the band even really started getting good like it is now i reached Russia and Lithuania. Many thanks again for your work

@ScottsRadios5 күн бұрын
There are certain tolerances when products are mass produced. Sometimes they are out of tolerance slightly and that's the reason for the readjustment. Other things like AM modulation can be improved, as well as SSB linearity.

Amazing Full Alignment Video,,,,,,,,Cant Beat a Really CLEAN Radio 100% 👍 Scotland 108CT389.
@robertmeyer47447 күн бұрын
Very good job ! I understand the alignment, Just do not have all the test gear needed. I know not to mess with settings. That bias setting is real important to be close as you can get. This you have to do again after changing out finals . Different batch of transistors are a tad different. this applies to BJT and FETS . Big difference on SSB on that one. well rounded with great cross over on scope after alignment. I see the IMD got better as well. Now all the power is right where you want it . The QT 80 draws in the 15 amp range at full power. Use larger AWG and be mindful of wire length . I like using 12 or even 10 AWG wire. We saw northern lights in NY from that solar storm. Messed up the bands during the day. Still making contacts Just dealing with noise and QSB. 10 and 12 meters the most effected . The noise filters in them QT radios work pretty good. 73

I notice you do not use a static strap. I had to use one when opening the computer on a refer unit
@ScottsRadios7 күн бұрын
I have found I haven't needed one as I have had one in the past and have tested using it and not using it and have found in both circumstances there was no risk to what I'm working with. With that being said I wouldn't necessarily want to go run my hand excessively through some shaggy carpet or go handle laundry coming out of the dryer with fabric softener sheets and then open lids of electronics.

@@ScottsRadios lol. Maybe it was different cuz the truck would build static just driving down a road. If I was out and didn't have it I would just make sure I kept my arm on the metal case as a safe ground. Keel up the great content . Thanks

How is the heat on the heat sink now compared to before your work
@ScottsRadios5 күн бұрын
The radio produces a good 100 watts you should expect it to get warm. It has an adequate heat sink and I found no problems when radios are running hot. There is a new fan kit available in Europe maybe invest in one of those if they heating issue is of concern?
