My problem with the divisibility tests for 4 and especially 8 is you must be able to look at the number and somehow just know if the two or three digits are divisible by 4 or 8. It doesn't help me to say 1235694 only has to have the 94 tested for divisibility for 4 if I can't tell just by looking if it is divisible or not. In your example for 8 you said 328 was divisible by 8. How did you know? What if it were 618? It is meaningless to say, "Well, just LOOK at it." How does *that* tell me anything?

You still need a pen & paper to learn this. If you count the carrys on your hand then you could just write the unit number in the total. But for accuracy I quite like Trachtenberg's method of subtracting 11's from the running total as it allows you to carry out checks on all the numbers & total. However if you want speed the dot method is quicker.

I got the answer for the second question as fathers present age to be 40 years but I could not solve the first one.

For 10:22, I found the sum of the childrens age is 20 and the fathers age is 40

for the equation at 2:51 I got x= -12 and y= -5

I see how he got his answer. I like it, however what i don't understand is what is what told him to place a negative sign (-) before performing the other half of the cross multiplication 27*1? I do understand why he does after watching the video but dont understand what clues, principles, or rules prompted him to place the negative sign before (saying again) multiplying 27*1.
