We don’t need an intervention unless we personally wish to give birth and somehow Tokophobia is preventing that. most of us with Tokophobia will never wish to give birth, so we don’t need interventions. We are perfectly happy being child free.

as in, there is no conflict in my life for me having severe Tokophobia. I am terrified of getting pregnant, so I won’t ever willingly choose to get pregnant. Problem solved. No interventions required. this phobia causes absolutely zero distress or lack of functioning in my day to day life, there is no need to cure my phobia when i am perfectly happy with never having children. the most important part of a psychological disease is the distress it causes in the patients day to day life and if it hinders their functioning in work, academics, or/and relationships. Having a mortal disgust and aversion to my own body becoming pregnant does not affect any part of my life and doesn’t need to be fixed.

My first pregnancy: Late term transverse lie baby (I saw a chiro who did Webster method), awful SPD, failed epidural (they stuck me twice for it to take), issues inserting an IV due to “rolling veins” that are very visible but easy to blow out, rapid labor (my daughter shot out of me lol), severe tearing because my body didn’t have time to prepare for labor. Now 37 weeks pregnant. Yet another baby in a transverse lie, my tailbone area feels like it’s floating around and sometimes feeling like it stabs my leg, legs so loose they feel like they’ll give out…My OB is great but isn’t well versed in EDS. I’m a military spouse who moved states and has an all new medical team halfway through this pregnancy. Fingers crossed that this goes well ❤

It correlates with rates of obesity between different groups, among other things. Groups with lower rates of obesity, such as East Asians are affected less, although this does not give the ideological narrative that is sought so instead the focus is on how white patients. It is ideological and divisive nonsense to claim this is somehow related to racism.

Her book was a good read but a quick look at her blog shows all sorts of ideological nonsense being pushed by her - her number 1 on the recommended reading list for aspiring midwives has absolutely nothing to do with midwifery and is a book about why white people are inherently bad. She's clearly a bright girl but she's succumbed to ideological nonsense.

I am 751/2 years old, l am still trying to be heard , l have been suffering ever since childhood with EDS , just recently came across Dr Hauser’s post on hEDS , l felt a since of relief when l heard him say it was like a message from God , but trying to convince my Primary Doctor of this is another thing, l am too sick to keep arguing with him I am 💯 % convinced that this is my problem they are sending me text messages for an appointment and l don’t want to go back to him ! he is humiliating me in front of his nurse, when l get up in the mornings, l need to take 4 arthritis strength powders to take a little of the edge of so l can function just a little bit, this man called a medical professional is mean and l am too old and too sick to fool around with a poor excuse for a doctor l am going to try to see if l can contact a Genesis and rheumatologist as soon as possible, l have no one to speak up for me 🙏🌸

"birthing people" Absolutely no need for this. If women want to pretend they're not women, why would they do the most female thing their body is capable of? Tired of these language games.

Im actually shocked I came across this video. Pretty sure I have EDS/ hypermobility and have simply been living life as "very flexible." Now that ive learned more about EDS Ive scored myself on the Baton scale and feel i have undiagnosed EDS.. Im also pregnant with my 2nd child and this video shocks me because I barely I had told myself months ago theres probably no education on EDS and pregnancy and here is a video!

No one is "trying to pass on this horrible condition".....that is naive and absurd of you to say. When you have any form of EDS you do NOT stop living life and achieving dreams and goals just because of EDS. You don't decide not to have kids or family just because you aren't PERFECT like everyone else?? There are millions of other people who are unfit to have kids way more than the EDS community. Go tell them to not have kids and "pass on their alcholism, drug addiction, depression, bi polar, schizophrenia....you get it now :)

I don’t think it’s irrational to prioritize my own quality of life over the production of wage slaves. Not wanting to rip my genitals isn’t irrational, and wouldn’t be seen as irrational if it was men rather than women that had to carry and give birth.

Well tokophobia is only a problem if it bothers you. If you don’t want to have a child and it doesn’t bother you, you’re ok. Although some women with tokophobia (like me) thought I would never want a baby anyway so it didn’t bother me at the time (consciously) but I’ve changed my mind.

My daughter spent 30+ days on NICU just after her first day of life. She was born through vaginal birth canal and was fine until day 1, when was diagnosed with a small anorectal malformation and a sacrococcygeal teratoma. After many interventions she's doing fine (removal of teratoma, anorectoplasty and coccyx and S5 vertebrae) but I always think about the absurd amount of antibiotics she received and how to colonize her with good microbial biodiversity. She feeds exclusively on breast.

Pubis symphysis was the most excruciating pain I’ve ever had. Now, diagnosed hypermobile it makes sense. I was told that I’m overreacting and not drinking enough water or doing yoga. This was worse than broken bones, torn ligaments, surgeries, etc. For 2 months I didn’t sleep for more than an hour at a time.

Can we take a vaginal sample to give orally to baby prior to csection and prior to their antibiotic ? Also obtaining a vaginal sample prior to moms getting antibitoics prior to vaginal delivery when treated early for group b strep? Then give that sample immediately orally to baby once born??????

I'm almost 17 weeks along with my first baby, and reading these comments, I am SO glad for where I live (NYC). It took 12 weeks to find a doctor willing to see me (I have hEDS with a GJ feeding tube for gastric motility disorders), but once I got in to meet my MFM, I was so relieved. My doctor has seen a lot of patients with all different forms of EDS, he told me a list of risks and what we'll do to mitigate them throughout pregnancy, labor, and recovery. I was planning on giving him a list of potential complications and requesting extra tests and prevention, but he knew every single possibility and was on top of it. And so far, everything is perfect. Some of my joints are looser now, some are actually more stable (RIP my right shoulder hypermobility). Having a knowledgeable, experienced doctor just makes all the difference in the world, at least for my peace of mind!!

Unbelievable that you are publishing this completely factless misinformation. FACTS: 1. White women have a wider pelvic inlet, wider outlet, and shallower anteroposterior outlet than African-American women. In addition, after vaginal delivery, white women demonstrate less pelvic floor mobility. These differences may contribute to observed racial differences in obstetric outcomes (such as cephalopelvic disproportion - which often leads to emergency operative delivery and all the associated maternal morbidity and mortality). 2. Black pregnant women are more likely to have higher BMI's (66% are overweight and obesity of all classes according to UK Govt data from 2019), more likely to have gestational diabetes, more likely to develop pre-eclampsia, more likely to develop postpartum cardiomyopathy, more likely to have sickle cell anaemia, more likely to have thalassemia, more likely to be grand multiparas - ALL these are well-established and recognised significant risk factors for maternal (and fetal) morbidity and mortality The 2015 MBRRACE-UK report into maternal deaths showed that 30% of women who died were obese and 22% were overweight - i.e. the majority! 66% of black pregnant women are overweight or obese in early pregnancy (Public Health England, 2019). This is nothing to do with racism, and everything to do with biology, physiology, facts and reality!
