I eventually found the transmission/ white light problem, on removing the supply cable hidden behind the fence. It had been chewed in 3 places by rats or mice 😮😅

I did this job on my W1914 today, I used a compressor to clear and the grey sludge snake from the long pipe made it half way down the garden!

Later precautionary measures: made 2 holes in the kneck of the shield and thread thin thin steel tie band through, up and around inlet manifold . Also attached a strip of u shaped seam edging round the perimeter of the square body to prevent any vibration effects.

hi mate do i need to removeboth driveshafts? ive lowered the enging and have the driver side shaft still in place can i simply pull the gearbox out from the shaft?
@milesbird4800Ай бұрын
Hi John thanks for this. Same issue on our 3dr Rav 4. Who did you get the replacement from on Ebay please? Probably a stupid question, but can you do this with fuel in the tank?
@johnfharveyАй бұрын
Hi, I got it from IM Axle Specialist Ltd for £47 including postage and 2 yr warranty. Good question re fuel, I wondered the same and took a risk. My tank was about 3/4 full and it was Ok, if you’ve just filled up to the filler. Best to wait a bit. Till tube section empty. One point I found had to faff around a lot to reposition the curved cowling back, so take photos before removing and when plastic removed to help repositioning the brackets. I ended up using longer bolts and thin screwdrivers to realign everything. Got it all back eventually if not exactly flush. Make sure the filler is reasonably aligned to get the cap on and off. I had to jig around a bit with it.

Yes John.So your Rad has no pressure cap like modern cars that just have the expansion tank.Interesting.

Harvey is that an expansion tank.Also my engine hasn't got an induction manifold.
@johnfharvey2 ай бұрын
Yes the expansion tank also known as the coolant reservoir. The induction manifold also known as the inlet manifold. Same things basically, just different terminology.

John.I have a 67 Moggy but no expansion tank.That's an add on.
@johnfharvey2 ай бұрын
@@bernarddegrasse8753 Hi Bernard, I think my rad is non standard put on by previous owner and needing a separate expansion tank. I guess you have the proper rad with a central radiator pressure release cap.

another oddity, make sure the clutch pedal half inch above break pedal, otherwise always crunches in reverse, no idea how logic can only effect the reverse only but it fixes it!

Big tip picked I up from a forum from Carrera4Boy'sDad I discovered these Mercedes W126 springs have a longer "leg" which allows them to be fitted: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12466618...teid=0&campid=&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1 The springs are not quite as substantial as the OEM part, but work just as well. After all, they are only there to keep the shoes square. I splayed the hook out a little more with pliers and this time I used a mirror to look round the back of the shoe retaining plate to absolutely ensure the hooks were properly through the hole and hooked in place. Last edited: 10 Jan 2024 £2.50 each instead of £23 . I have fitted these and so far so good

Great Vid John, quick question, when reinstalling the carburetor, is there a gasket that goes between the bottom and the manifold? if so is that gasket part of the repair kit?, thanks in advance

Cordialement
