Good tips! But i think 10s is enough for a glue to attach a plant underwater. Another tip: You can use sand or aquarium substrate or even coffee to cover any glued areas potentially visible from outside. This is why i always have dense glue and thin, watery like glue.

Is CLEAR SILICONE the best glue to use when glueing HEAVY ROCKS together ? as compared to an aquarium safe RESIN... which is better ?
@BRSfresh2 күн бұрын
I would still go with our cyanoacrylate thick gel glue. It is a guarantee that it works quickly and it’s inexpensive. Aquarium safe resin can be more expensive. Clear silicone takes time to dry. Gel glue can be used and secured 30sec before being placed in water. That’s what I would go with every time.

Whenever i use CA glue like you did, under water, I've failed miserabley time and time again (anubias to driftwood underwater, anubias to gravel to driftwood). I finally gave up and just drained my 75 and glued it to a more dry surface driftwood.
@BRSfresh2 күн бұрын
Not gonna lie - glueing out of water is easier. But if I have had trouble under water it’s been for 3 reasons: 1) wrong glue - too thin 2) not being decisive about placement and taking too long to secure it 3) not holding the spot long enough. When I do those right, I’m usually in pretty good shape.

years ago when i first found out about the glue+cotton trick it was a game changer.. it really "opens a door for new opportunities" xD and because of some reaction with the air + cotton it would instantly harden and you could use way less of it but over the time this reaction stopped happening.. probably cause my glue is 5ish years old now 🤷♂

With the 1/2" tube, how were you getting the suction started? Is there a better way then just sucking on the end and trusting your skill no not get a mouthful of aquarium water? Great video by the way, subscribed!
@BRSfresh4 күн бұрын
Glad you liked it! Good question - to avoid taking a drink here, make sure the tube is totally clear first. Don't do a big inhale...it doesn't take much. Keep an eye on the water - the second it comes through the tube over the rim, stop and let gravity do the rest. With around 4-5ft of tubing, you should have enough time to get out of the way!

Just watched a video about an hour ago where they (another YT channel) said not to get glue the rhizome, just the roots. I'm wondering, from how you worded it in your video, if the crux is really just not to completely encapsulate or encompass a portion of the rhizome as that would inhibit growth. Would you agree with that? Thanks and great video.
@BRSfresh4 күн бұрын
Good question - I try to avoid the roots but it would be better to get it on the roots than risk covering the rhizome for sure. In other words, if the rhizome is small, roots will work, but a line along the side of the rhizome ensuring you don't cover it has always worked for me as well.

Where are you getting this Instaset spray? I see none listed on Amazon. Unless I am spelling it wrong. What is the product name of the spray your using?

If I'm not mistaken, any CA glue accelerator spray should work (CA = cyanoacrylate which is super glue, gorilla glue, etc). Amazon has a 2oz, $9 spray bottle sold by TotalBoat. I'm ordering some myself.

Also every single plant you put in there gets MASSIVE. Even the birds nest ferns. I definitely feel like you should say something at the beginning. The average person won’t be able to maintain or house these plants after and they are fast growers, so a lot of maintenance and upkeep.

@MermaidGunner - thanks for the feedback! So far all the plants are growing well but there haven't been any issues with them outgrowing the space or not being manageable

So you didn’t cover with silicone? Just straight foam and coco? What happens when the coco starts breaking down or falls off? Also doesn’t protect from isopods chewing through the foam? Eh……..

@MermaidGunner - no issues at all - that foam by Josh's Frogs is made for this and once you vacuum off the excess coco fibers, you're good. We have dart frogs running around with water at the base and nothing is sluffing off. We have isopods and no issues there either. The whole set up still looks great!

One subject not mentioned is TDS, it seems a very grey area Matt, can you advise please?
@BRSfresh9 күн бұрын
The ideal TDS is normally around 200-300 for neocaridina shrimp. It's not often something that gets worried about as I have seen and heard them doing well in a much wider range of TDS levels. As long as you avoid really extreme levels they generally do fine. The issue with TDS is it's a measurement of everything, so everything can have a effect on TDS. Plant foods, hardscape and just about everything in between can mess around with it. If you're looking at just keeping neocaridina shrimp then I wouldn't chase the ideal parameters. But if you're looking at breeding them in large numbers then engineering your water with RO water and specific mineral mixes is probably your best bet.
@JJLewin19 күн бұрын
@@BRSfresh Thank you very much. I had one tank go as high as 1100ppm and some shrimp, especially Amano have survived. I will purchase some RO water and try to get closer to 400ppm. It shocked me to see how widely the readings over my tanks varied.

Excuse me, I really enjoyed your video but BIG question: how much long these tiny fishes live? I bought some grey corydoras and a group of cardinal tetras (the ones red and blue, very similar to neon tetras) I was told that all these fishes can live up to max 5 years... so I wonder if spend other money for these very tiny fishes is worthy or not 😮

I think if you spend money on the fish you want to see and those that you connect with then it’s never a waste 😊

Ive been running co2 from the 2 bottle setup (that i learned from your channel 😁) with daily ferts (flourish and flourish excel), about 6 root tabs, and about 2 inches of the enriched aquasoil substrate on a 10g extremely heavily planted tank with a large variety of plants with no fish in it (only some pest snails that hitched a ride from the store) so i dont necessarily have to worry about killing anything by having too much co2. I dont even have a co2 checker because of that fact. And i never turn the co2 off because no fish to kill, pretty much just an underwater garden and my question is: should i put my diffuser near my HOB filter intake? Its literally SO planted that i dont think the filter flow even really reaches the other side where the diffuser is but theoretically wouldnt i get better absorption if the co2 bubbles are going into the filter and back into the water that way? So theres more dispersion of co2-ified water flow..?
@baileyclement745013 күн бұрын
Also, is there such thing as too much co2 if I don't have any fish to worry about killing? im just basically feeding the plants all the nutrients i can think of in all the ways i know of
@BRSfresh13 күн бұрын
Good question! If the flow isn't getting to the other side of the tank, making a change in your diffuser location to better cover the tank is a good idea. In the case of an enclosed canister, near the intake is a good option as the gas will stay within the tubing/canister before being released into the tank. In the case of HOB, you run the risk of losing gas in the open top before it's full dissolved. If you're plants are healthy, I wouldn't worry about it. If they're showing signs of CO2 deficiency, consider two diffusers (you can get a y connector for around $25) then run one on either side. Again, if all is well, I think you're good :)
@BRSfresh13 күн бұрын
Also a good question - yes, that is definitely a thing. Biggest concern would be fish, but in your case, plants can be negatively affected by a large drop in pH from the increased CO2 amongst other things like nutrient imbalances
@baileyclement745013 күн бұрын
@BRSfresh I also don't have a heater and never do water changes only top ups. I know I've heard some plants do better with warmer waters but again it's so planted that I think a heater would barely fit and/or throw off the look that I'm going for and kinda be an eye sore to the jungle I have in there. Think it'd be worth trying to hide a heater inside the hob filter? Also should I be doing water changes if no fish in there? It's currently been running for about 2 months and absolutely no nitrate
@BRSfresh8 күн бұрын
Sounds like you have a great balance in there. With no fish you should be fine to continue what you’re doing. I have not had an issue with growing a variety of plants at room temp without a heater.

In process of re-establishing a much larger planted setup. Had never used CO2 before in my smaller tanks which may have housed 1 or 2 plants. I find your videos very informative, clear, concise with little or no BS filler. Initially thought about trying the homemade 2-bottle set up but it’s short term and messy. Setting up a 60gal and considering using the tank and gauge-based format shown in this video (of course dependent on setup and continued costing). My concern is on sourcing replacement CO2 (refillable vs non-refillable) bottles and $$$$. New subscriber. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
