I own a d-box and to me the difference in summing vs tracks out of 1-2 was quite noticeable. The clarity, depth and a 3-D effect was present in summing vs a flat response with 1-2 channels.

I just bought Waves Tune and am using Studio 1-6 . It doesn't seem to be scanning the vocal part . The bar on top says "Outside session limits" What does that mean and how do I fix it?
@kdwmixingmastering26 күн бұрын
I am not a studio user so I am not sure. Doing a quick search there is mention of it not supporting anything above 96khz and also a maximum length of 10 minutes. If you have a track that is 10 minutes long then they suggest splitting it onto two different tracks to get around the length issue e.g. 1-5 mins track 1, 5-10 mins track 2.

Very nice tune and performance. My width control doesn't move. I have to figure that out. Good job showing the unit.
@kdwmixingmastering26 күн бұрын
Thanks. I am not sure about the width control but at a guess it might have something to do with either the track being mono or the type of stereo track. Putting it on a bus and sending the audio track to it can sometimes get around issues with stereo width.

What you are listening on has a big impact. On an iPhone it might be very obvious as you state but on studio speakers or in the car it might be less obvious. Also some people have more sensitive hearing than others. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

So just a dummy-question, if the phase is going tie OPPOSITE way of each other, that's when they cancel each other out? In other words, if you have a phase issue, you have to make sure that the waveform is similar on both tracks?

I've compared these carefully IRL via the trial periods. Don't own either. They are completely different, even when trying to match settings by ear. The Legacy is grabby, punchy, and doesn't pump. It's sound however is a bit congested in that plugin way. The new one sounds more hifi, open and wider stereo image, but the way it compresses is loose and pumpy. The Legacy is a more useful type of compression on a bus to me, just a shame we can't have the superior sound and fidelity of the new one with the better compression of the Legacy.
@kdwmixingmastering10 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree they sound very different. Maybe if they had released two versions with the better sound fidelity that would have been good, because I can see different people preferring different versions.

Hi, I decided to use this plugin. But... When I calibrate sounds to -18 db, mix is so low. Everything is getting so weak. At the end of the mix what I am gonna do for making it loud?
@kdwmixingmastering10 ай бұрын
This is level that I take a mix into mastering. If you want to do a quick mastering/volume boost just for presentation then put a limiter on the end of the chain and boost the volume. Otherwise this low level will get resolved in mastering.

Kevin, how do you shift vocals forward and backwards to fix timing issues?
@kdwmixingmastering10 ай бұрын
Sorry I havent used this plugin for a while so I am not sure exactly how to do that. I would guess that you select all the little parts of entire note and just drag it across. If this is not possible then I would go back out of the plugin and split up the sections in your audio track note by note if needed and just move the notes manually. That is how I do timing issue corrections most of the time. I just find the problem areas in the track audio and split it up and start moving it around in very small movements by zooming in extremely close. I think I have a video on the channel somwhere that explains how I do tming issue correction.

UA's Century Tube Channel Strip plugin is a sleeper and is awesome in the Unison slot. Correct! The CTCS is not emulating any real world device. Instead, it's basically a combination of UA's 610 preamp and EQ (with added mid-band), and an LA-2A compressor, all rolled into a single, easy to use plugin. IMHO, the CTCS should be on every Apollo user's short list of go-to Unison plugins.

What do you think, can this vst function as a shortcut for mixing (especially gain staging)? So lets say you want to focus more on the 'creative part' of producing music like sound design, writing the track, arranging etc. can this plugin solve the problem or is it more like a toy?
@kdwmixingmastering11 ай бұрын
It might be possible to do what you say but I could not in all honesty recommend it for that. I would hate for someone to spend money on something that might not do what they want. For me I didn't find it useful but I am not doing what you are looking for. If you can demo it then that would be a great option. For me to do what you state I would spend some time creating a template of tracks and effects that suit your setup and just pull that up every time you want to record and you would have a rough mix done straight away.
@whensiouxmetaliens794811 ай бұрын
Thanks, yeah, I've tried Visual Mixer recently (i found there is a free trial of Neutron 4) , well I was quite dissapointed. One of the greatest mistake of that plugin is that it only works with Neutron 4, otherwise you are not able to use it, meanwhile Izotope advertise it as 'a free plugin' xd yeah, it is free but after the your 10-day free license of Neutron 4 expires, you cannot use Visual Mixer effectively for nothing. Obviously this plugin is not some kind of 'secret sauce', but (in my opinion at least) it would be a great tool for bedroom hobby producers, thats why I don't really understand the marketing strategy behind Visual Mixer.

Please help me understand. I thought the pre-gain controls the input level just like clip gain. However, I noticed that when the meter position is on input pre-gain doesn't affect the meter reading at all. This is with the channel strip in pre position as well. Could someone please clarify?
@kdwmixingmastering Жыл бұрын
That surprises me as well. It sounds like the Pre-Gain control is just after the input meter. I personally prefer to use Clip Gain and not the pre-gain control. I did this video because someone requested that I use that control to show the technique.
@mgmthegrand Жыл бұрын
@@kdwmixingmastering Seems you might be right about the pre-gain position, which is very disappointing. There isn't a single video about gain-staging I've seen that explains this and it's a very important caveat IMO. Using clip gain can get tricky when you have multiple clips, and if pre-gain doesn't control the input level, it's only useful for adding gain before the fader which doesn't help maintain an input level that bodes well of optimal headroom and control of the signal.
