A warm welcome to Cardinal McElroy, a strong advocate for the "Seamless Garment" of Catholic morality consistent with the Gospels, recognizing that defense of life means support for families and opposition to abortion, but also support for immigrants and peace and opposition to economic and environmental exploitation.

I'm 31 and have never gone to confession before. (I was not raised Catholic, but my dad was, and my fiancé was, so I know a little about it.) Do I say it's been 31 years, or do I just say that it's my first time? Father Mike (from Ascension Presents) said to say it's been (number of years you've been alive) since you've gone if it's your first time, but what do you say?

I have a great question here.....if one has been confessing without stating the number of times one has sinned a particular sin...especially if one did not know on the importance of this 1. Can we say that the previous confessions were never legit? 2. If so, in stating the time one did the previous confession, what can we say(can we say we have never confessed since birth

I can tell you what a "poor church for the poor" should mean. Jesus would invite the poor to the front pew in mass, and would not hide them away, or reject them. The poor should be side by side with everybody else. The poor ought to be able to serve at mass or do any other ministry if they can and so choose. The poor should be treated with the same respect as any other person. Try that on for size! But that's what Jesus would really do.
