Including the travel factor I think we can bump the Eagles to at least 4th in another bias fixture against us.

Any of the top sides from 2024 except may be Lions and Hawks can drop down the ladder and bottom sides can rise up the ladder so a draw that looks hard now can suddenly look easy.

Freo's last 8 are against: Sydney (SCG) Hawthorn (Optus) Collingwood (MCG) West Coast (Optus) Carlton (Optus) Port Adelaide (AO) (Freo have never won that game) Brisbane (Optus) Bulldogs (Marvel) 6 of last year's top 8, Collingwood (who now have Dan Houston), and probably a west coast side that'll be finals worthy for that one single game of the year

Not sure how to implement this in but I think a stat worth looking into is previous years ladder position (perhaps use your formula, then make a comparison incorporating an average of the 2 ladder positions?). I say this because you can have a down year and have a strong team in a lower echelon of the ladder. These are the teams that worry me most when it comes to the fixture because your "easy" games could match you with someone like Collingwood who are only 2 seasons removed from a premiership and still playing most of those same players. Or maybe I'm just overcomplicating things
@gwilkes53258 күн бұрын
Should definitely be taken into account, unless it's like Hawthorn or Freo, neither finished higher than 14th last year.
@RilesMacca8 күн бұрын
Yeah its a good thought you've made. Sides like Adelaide and Melbourne at their best don't seem like bottom 6 sides, however % is always a good indication on how a teams season went. You can finish in the bottom 6 but have a high % in comparison to sides near or in the top 8. Overall you can only really create fixture difficulties from what we know. Who knows which sides will rise and fall next year.

Love your work on this video mate. Only justification I can find for my Roo's having the 7th most difficult fixture is the overall time slots that we have. There's certainly a nouse on North to perform in 2025 and we've certainly been dealt a challenging draw, though one we as a fan base are happy to oblige and support through. I've got no issue with Richmond considering the loss of talent and experience they've copped, alas the rest of the bottom 7 is by far poor favour by the AFL. - Melbourne getting sympathy fir in house issues - Adelaide for a lack luster cluster f#$k up of a 2024 season. - Carlton periodically getting help on the sly cause they were a shade of their 2022 selves - GC frankly a sad tale as old as time. All the help in the world plus interest and haven't made finals once. - Bulldogs essentially one of the two most in firm teams to see out the 2024 season. - Geelong like you said a kick away greater success yet harkens to a fkaw in what's an "equal" fixture. - and Sydney who made finals last year and went on to choke in a GF so why the sympathy vote here? Tbh, I think clubs who finish higher on the ladder should have to travel more. It's the best way to equalise the comp on performance AND it provides growth and fan service across the country. Getting a bit too hung up on romantics such as the yearly Marquee games. Or perhaps not as imaginative to how they can be played in a location. Great video mate! Looking forward to more off-season content.

I see your point, but conversely do they get a big pat on the back for Chad? It's tough, we consistently hit big with out MSD, rookies, and late picks but have murdered our early picks the last few years.

A famous one from the VFL era is 1965 Melbourne, coming off as reigning premiers (and 11 consecutive finals series for 6 flags) went 8-0 to start the season, famously sacked their coach Norm Smith (only to reinstate him) and then only won 2 more matches to slump to 7th with a 10-8 record. It would then be 23 years before they played finals again.
