Wow I know you really got a hold on me I can’t stop listening to this song

The Funk Brothers never miss. All of the covers that they do are incredible. The late great Bob Babbit on Bass. This was excellent. But my favorite rendition of this song is now and always will be the Beatles.

Why do vocalists often feel the need to butcher the timing and rhythm of the lyrics? Does Meshell really think that Smokey got it wrong? Its a distraction and disrespectful to the composer, listener and other musicians, especially in this instance. If she had sung it as it was meant to be sung this performance would be a masterpiece. What a shame.

It's great, but I like the acoustic piano on Smokey's version better; the piano keyboard part is a little too electronic sounding here and not as bluesy as the original 45 version. The Funk Brothers are legends as far as I'm concerned, and I also am along time fan of Me'shell, who is a pure musician and artist,
@kevingavigan78834 жыл бұрын
I agree Steven! It's amazing how much better an acoustic piano sounds than a digital piano. Interestingly enough, both the digital piano on this version and the acoustic piano on Smokey's version are played by Joe Hunter, who was the original bandleader and keyboardist of The Funk Brothers (the best band ever).

That's Joe Hunter. He was the original bandleader of The Funk Brothers. In 1964, he was replaced by Earl Van Dyke as bandleader and keyboard player.

i strongly disagree about Me'shell Ndegeocello's vocals, on this. though she doesn't belt it out, to me, she displays a pitch perfect display of restraint & soulfulness, which captures the true beauty of this song! her vocals on this song, is to me, the best vocal interpretation of all the songs, on this movie!
@tylereves80535 жыл бұрын
I am in complete agreement. this has become my favorite version of this song and my favorite song from the movie. there is an obscure version with cher and greg allman worth mentioning... and a kingston interpretation by Derrick Harriot to hear as well... i did not read the negative review that is refereed to, but i am glad bobby picked up on it and set the record straight... damn straight!!!

3 years late, but She nails it. With the OG Funk Brothers
@backelie2 жыл бұрын
@@elsipotepiedra I think her vocals are fine, 4/5, and overall this might be the best version because of how good the band sounds. I prefer Percy Sledge's lead vocals, but what ruins both Percy's take and the original a bit for me are the backing vocals, they are waay better in this version.
