Neat ideas. Are you concerned about damaging your clickers by not having a breakaway for the rudder embedded in the cassette?
@gbmeyers22Ай бұрын
Yes and no. The side pressure did break away the plastic side tips, and I replaced it with a full 6"x1/4" bolt through the cassette. I do not think the pressure is much worse than vertical Mirage peddles. At least I hope so!

Looking at doing something similar on my AI but using a spare AI daggerboard located in an HDPE insert (made from multiple thick sheets) to allow it to pivot back like the standard (pre 2015) daggerboard

The side tabs on the new center board eventually broke, due to stress. I replaced them with a 6" bolt and washers, through the center plug, which now holds fine.

I took several videos comparing speeds with my modifications. I'll repost those later. But since then, I further improved my design. I also now hold the ama fin mounts with large hose clamps, around the whole ama, on the outer side of the ama. The drag is almost nothing and the amas remain higher in the water... which keeps the sail more vertical, and catches more wind!

Inquiring minds would like to know how the side fin mounts are mounted to the AMA?

Hi Gary if you were to put fins on each side of the hulls but more towards the bow under the AMAS you would get more lift ,,,might be an interesting idea 💡 😀
@gbmeyers2211 ай бұрын
Tried that. Yes, it did work, but it affected loading and unloading from my trailer.
@Piratepeteoo11 ай бұрын
@gbmeyers22 ,,,,okay well then you need to find a way to make it work mate 👍,,,you could try each side of the bow left and right with the same angle ,,you can try to modify the trailer 😉

Wife is loving the possibility of this mod helping her stay a bit dryer on our Hobie TI -especially in cooler months. What dimensions/thickness of plexiglass did you use? ⛵
@gbmeyers222 жыл бұрын
Maybe 1/8 inch... just needs to be flexible. 1' x 5' rectangle. You'll want to cut a u shaped place for the ropes to pass through.

@@gbmeyers22 Ha, I am picking up my 3rd TI at the end of the week! Send me the plans or make me one for $? How does the splash guard work in higher winds? Thanks in advance.
@gbmeyers222 жыл бұрын
@@seewind It's quite easy to make. Run down to the local hardware store and buy a 12" x 60" piece of Lexan (flexible plastic). Have them cut it. Then place it in the approximate place in front of the mast, and mark where you need to cut out places for the AMA bar and main sheet ropes. Then drill small holes (one each above the ama bar) to thread through a bungee cord loop. You should also install a small hook just fore of the mast hole on top of hull, to hold a third bungee that holds the middle of the splash shield in place. I'll send an old video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zn2Zmnaondhrh9E
