Greatings from McMurdo Station Antarctica. Strangely enough, there are some places down here that don't look too different! We're always looking out for that alien BTW 😂👍

After 60 years in hyper sleep we finally arrived at the colony on Kara, a planet so Earth like that terraforming was not needed. After decades of sturdy the colony was sent down. A thriving world for over a century the sudden cessation of communication was a great cause of concern. I have arrived at Outpost 31, high in the mountains of the northern continent, where the air is cold and thin, it is the last of the settlements and outpost on Kara to be visited by out crew investigating the riddle of this beautiful world. There is no trace of the people who made up the colony here. Records are precise and readily available showing there were 147,328 men, women and children on Kara 67 Kara years ago. As I recall, the last day was ‘Barnsol’, the third day in the 8 day week on Kara. About as normal as any other day here. This was the last day of records, from manual entry by the population in their social media, record keeping or communications. After that day, nothing . Automatic cameras recording traffic or street scenes show nothing. Nothing, no movement except wind blown debris on occasion. Except one brief signal from Outpost 31 two days later. Not a voice message but in a type of code tapped as bursts of radio waves and silence to create a pattern. I’ve come to this outpost to investigate. There is no one here, no sign of what the message could have meant. There are exposed wires on an old communications set that appears to have been damage. This May have been how the code was sent. I have not had any contact with any of the others in my crew for days now. My commo gear checks out as operative. I am trying to use the exposed wires to create a spark that should be seen across a broad radio frequency spectrum. Have they gone the way of the colonists? And how? Am I next? The code was written down and I think I understand how to send a short message. Perhaps I should try again to send

looks pretty cozy

Have to say I love the effects of the wafting snow outside the Windows. Momentarily revealing a wall of Rocky Mountain surrounding the camp. Wonderful touch about how the stressed out, indecisive and at times cowardly “Windows” may have seen/ mentally perceived the world around him. Cold. Isolated. Lonely and the only “action” he could get was found in old outdated VHS tapes and scuffed up nude magazines!

Like many of you, I’m a massive fan of John Carpenter’s The Thing. And I love your OUTPOST 31 ambience tracks! The communications room is so vital to the film. It appears several times in two locations: 1) Norwegian camp- where MacCready finds the body of the operator. weird fat globulous blood frozen in motion; as if stopped by the cold from escaping his exposed oesophageal. That gap where the blade did damage was making a real strange noise as the air passed through! Macready just stared at this horrific sight and wondered WTF happened here?! What madness drive a man to do this to himself? 2) Outpost 31. Windows is their radio operator. Cannot reach anyone. Later Blair trashes that room when he realises what they’re all up against! The Comms rooms were used to re-enforce theme of isolation and Despair. Cannot call for help. No one can reach. In Blair’s opinion; it was necessary, for the sake of humanity, for everyone in Outpost 31 to abandon all hope!

Knock at the door. Opening it up a scientist sees two police officers who ask, “Good evening I am Sargent Williams and this is Officer Rodriguez and we saw a light on. Is everything OK?” The scientist, taken aback, says “yes, why wouldn’t everything be well? I am not sure how you local cops got on base but the research I am doing here is of a very, VERY classified nature.” “Base?” Replied the Sargent, the only military base around here is over 200 miles away. The last base here was closed over 30 years ago. All the building were tore down and everything. I drive the road here at least twice a day and I’ve not noticed any building here.” Looking past the scientist and seeing various scientific equipment in the room, the Sargent looks at his partner and the color drains from his face. Officer Rodriguez looks inside and asks the scientist “How long have you been here? I mean, what was the date you began your…..experiments.” The scientist, noticing the strange uniforms of the officers, replied, “I don’t know if you are cleared for this information but about two weeks. I began on August 18.” Looking at the confused look on the officers face, the added “1946, of course. I am funded by the War Department to aide in the second invasion of Japan. With my research in quantum mechanics we should have Japan negotiate surrender by 1947.” Sargent Williams said, with an unsteady voice, “ Sir, this is April 20th. 2024. How…?” The scientist looks at the two policemen, then nodded his head and closed the door. He moved inside to a rack of equipment and began to throw a switch . Officer Rodriguez, standing next to Sargent Williams said “I sure am glad you decided to pull over to take a wiz. My back teeth were floating after all that coffee! This is a pretty desolate place.” “Yeah, used to be a base here during the war. Did some really hush-hush research or something here. Then One day it was gone.” “The government just tore it down? “Sargent Williams shrugged his shoulders “No rook, it was just gone. No machinery came to demolish it and no trucks came to haul it away. Just gone. Weird. Ok, let’s saddle up and see what what is going on in our lovely community.” “Sarge, nothing ever 😢exciting happens here.”
