Have you tried generative ambient? I did and failed - either it's too one-dimensional, too chaotic or requires so much additional automation, that it becomes like doing it manual mode either way. How much time does it take you to make a single track for KZbin?

I've no talent for composing...but I've had some pretty good results from mixing field samples. Ambient backgrounds are a true art form.

I agree, the field samples and not music sound design is a huge part of it. I often find I have to pull back on the music elements to make sure I am not loosing the beauty of the sound design.

1:45 - For Dark Ambient music, I recommend using Phrygian mode, which offers more natural dissonance.
