Thanks for this video. Would you say it's still worth it in 2022? There is one being sold for a good price in my area and I'm thinking of buying it. Some say the image quality is not that good. Also, could I use my phone as a monitor when recording videos since this does not have a flip out screen?

This is a really great review video. I'm looking to buy one of these even though it's a fairly old model. My existing Olympus SH-2 is pretty disappointing, it's only good feature, it fit's in my pocket OK. The newer model Lumix is larger so that put me off. Thanks for this knowledge it will be handy.

I've never been to a fashion show so I can't say how the camera will perform in that type of environment, but as far as food or travel yes. Specially for traveling since the camera is compact. Now if you want to make a film I wouldn't recommend it because it doesn't have an external mic and while video quality is very good if you use the zoom under low light the video quality will go down a little, but that s just because of the variable aperture in the lens. yeah its not a big deal. But yeah the camera its pretty good. let me know if there's anything else I can help you with.

Im still in partial novice mode. I have no idea what the different aspect ratios really mean, or how to control them. so if the firmware does NOT speed up burst mode, then no big deal. honestly, for a $200 camera its great. Im not trying to be an expert photographer. I think I did teach myself something though this week. I noticed if I change the shutter speed in shutter priority, whatever shutter speed I choose, is the shutter speed that will be in effect in scene mode.

yeah you can, the the firmware update is not to Speed up the burst mode. Is mostly to fix a bug while shooting burst at 16:9

I read somewhere I can download an update to the camera from the SD card, once I download the firmware to the SD card. The firmware is supposed to speed up the burst mode. I have no clue how to go about this. I read the instructions. Still don't know what the heck Im doing.

Yeah the S700 was a nice camera, but I was kinda disappointed by the 38mm lens.

the S700 is a nice camera, except for the fact that its a 10x zoom. I have the S700 also, but I wont ever buy any other camera with less than a 26X zoom. I brought both cameras with me to the memorial day event. I switched to the S700 when the batteries died in the Z981. I should have just switched the second second set of batteries to the Z981. Although there's a second consideration: My storage space that remainded on my SD card in my Kodak.

How long where the Speeches? I've recorded about 45 minutes of video in mines and after that shot about 50 photos and the batteries still had some charge left.

Not really. Aperture priority is for more advance users. Manual focus work the same way and a lot easier.

You cant compare the Z981 to some of the newest finepix products. z981 came out about 3 years ago. Now if the finepix camera you're talking about is the Finepix S700 the I'll rather go for the Z981. I've own a lot of fujifilm cameras in the past. S1000FD ,S100fs ,S1800 ,S2550 and S3000. z981 is a lot better than those

if he wants to blur backround, then isnt the simple answer for him to just do aperature priority?

I think maybe part of the battery problem was simply that I bought old batteries. The Kodak Z981 does seem to drain batteries quickly, but buying old batteries that sat on a rack at a gas station minimart didnt help matters.

I put new batteries in the Z981 yesterday morning. I did video of two speeches, and the batteries were completely depleted soon after. Then I switched to my Finepix. The original idea was to keep the Z981 on the tripod for the speeches, and use the Finepix to shoot still photos.

I went to a Memorial Day event. I had two cameras with me: the Z981, and an old Fujifilm finepix camera. The Fujifilm camera is a 10X zoom. I like the Zoom ability of the Z981But the Fujifilm camera gives a beautiful focus. Im thinking maybe the best $200 camera choice is to go backto a finepix product! I admit during an event, im doing quick decision making, and not using the features of the Z981 completely correct, but compared to the latest finepix products, is Z981 very substandard?
