I've had good luck with gold dollars honing them on convex stones, almost makes it too easy and it doesnt matter if the razors warped, or doesnt lay flat as it will all get honed evenly with minimal hone wear.

I don't understand how people expect a $20 razor to shave as well as a $200 razor made by a quality razor manufacturer such a DOVO. Quality steel and quality heat treating process is a BIG part of the end result. The money you spend on finding a good razor at $20 a pop and went through the time spent sharpening then honing it you could have purchased a good quality manufactured razor to start with. Just my two cents worth.

While the initial breadknifing is likely the cause this can also happen from taping the spine and not allowing the spine to wear in conjunction with the rest of the razor. On the razor itself it a classic "rattler" style razor and likely a blank from whatever factory it came from before it was stamped. I have a few of them, a W&B a Frederick Reynolds and another I can't recall right now. If it was indeed a blank it's likely it never had a "factory" bevel put on it and, I don't know where you got it, but someone inexperienced could have tried and failed and decided it wasn't worth the hassle and ebay'ed it.

Thanks for the explanation about the black line. I need to check on my razors. When I modify the razor like that I find it more difficult to set the bevel and get the razor to shave smooth.

It is good to see more videos from you. I hope you are well. It is easy to get impatient. But it teaches you that it causes more work than if you took your time to do it properly. When I find that I want to skip ahead, then I remind myself of this fact, take a break and then come back to it. It helps me keep focus. Thanks for sharing.

C'est finalement une opération assez stricte l'affûtage, merci pour cette "mise a jour" importante. J'ai déjà remarqué cette fine bande noire sur le file et j'avais pensé que c'était un effet d'ombre au microscope....bun non! Il faut que tu nous sortes une vidéo sur toutes les erreurs possible 🙂 👍
