God forbid I read a book where characters have nuance smh/sarcasm I like the idea that the main cataclysm of the book is grief, hell, I'm a big fan of characters who are assholes because of grief, but grief applies to everyone. Mapleshade killing people is wrong, but so is attacking a woman, kicking three toddlers out to the streets and blaming your wife for the death of her children I actually think that the fact that everyone in the book is wrong to a degree awesome! Warriors clearly struggles with making their main characters flawed people, and this book is such a great example of cats with clear flaws :) One point I might disagree is that Appledusk didn't know their names, feel free to correct me on this, but reading the book I assumed he would have learned their names in the gathering, considering it's common to state the name of kits born into a clan (notable example I can remember is Blackstar announcing Tigerkit's birth in PO3 and everyone at the gathering being unseasy) and Mapleshade specifically told Frecklewish and Oakstar to tell Appledusk about the kits being born (that they assumed was as a means to intimidate him), the line about their names TO ME was more just Mapleshade thinking he never learned their names than actual evidence he didn't, I might be wrong on this one though lol, it's been a while since I read this book Still shitty that he cheated on his wives though smh smh

“Starclan TOLD Leafpool to break their rules so it’s okay when she does it!” (They didn’t seem to think it was okay in squirrelflights hope lol) That’s not the point I was making, she still hurt ppl by lying and is allowed to break whatever rules in the fandom and DOSENT get backlash for doing the same thing other cats (not only Leafpool) get to do. You guys say the rule is dumb then act like mapleshade deserved to get cruel and unusually punished by having her KIDS exiled with her. Like come on

tbh i think there is some middle ground here. she def made some bad decisions, but she was failed by the system, so to speak. it shouldnt have been illegal to have half-clan relationships. oakstar should not have exiled her and her kits- he could have at least offered the kits a home. i think maple's biggest mistake was trying to cross a river with her kits that she KNEW could flood. she could very well have gone to twolegplace to wait it out. THAT was her fault. starclan should have been merciful in the end when they were aware she was having a psychotic episode

I just finished this whole video and I just gotta say THANK YOUU ((it’s like you reached into my brain and pulled out my thoughts on the topic loll)) But the overjudment of female characters while males get away with worse crimes i feel stems from some form of misogyny even if the perpetrators themselves don’t have those veiws it happens a lot in fandoms and it’s really infuriating
