There's too many Yes Men in this comment section. Someone needs to properly review this song. Also, the first paragraph is gonna be me talking about the drama. Sorry in advance for bringing it up, but it is relevant to the review. Today I discovered the document detailing what Gunfight's composer did, and the allegations made against them. (Gunfight is the old version of Gunpowder, before Lilac joined the team.) When Gunpowder V1 came out, I didn't really understand why Gunfight needed to be replaced in the first place. But with the information I know now, I get it. The original composer is everything I hate about humanity rolled into one "person", and I'm truly, honestly glad they will never work on this mod again. I don't know how they're still allowed on the internet, even after what they did, but they did upload a remix of Gunfight recently on their old channel. I'll let you guys on the dev team figure out what to do about that, but if I were you, I'd try getting that channel taken down. And then make a Compendium of their music afterwards, like JSoull did with Fleetwire. Separate the art from the artist. Blah blah blah, enough about the years-old drama. What do I think about Gunpowder? It's alright. I still prefer Gunfight. Even after all that yapping about how much Gunfight's composer sucks, I still prefer Gunfight. Why? To put it simply, I think the changes Lilac made with Gunpowder are weird, and they make the whole thing sound worse. I know _why_ the song had to be changed, but if it were me composing the song (and I'm not a composer, but pretend I could be,) I would have gone in a much different direction than Lilac. Two years ago, I already bitched and moaned about how spammy Gunpowder V1's chart sounded. And to a lesser extent, I still feel like there's more notes here than there needs to be. Gunfight had very specific, iconic melodies, and the added notes make those melodies fall apart. Not to mention the song was already really hard before. If you really, REALLY wanted Gunpowder to be harder, you'd have to make an Encore/Erect remix separate from the main song. The entire song is played in a different key than usual. I could complain about it, but I already sound like "Old Man Yells At Cloud" without rambling about how different keys create different moods in a song. I'll just move on. The instrumental just feels weird to me. It's hard to explain. The drums are noticeably softer, and it reads more as funky background noise than the deep synth alarm sound of the original. It might be too many instruments layered over each other, but I'm not an expert on the matter. Take this particular point with a grain of salt. (Really, take this whole comment with a grain of salt. Take two grains with this point?) Hank's new chromatics definitely sound more lore-accurate, and the gun sounds are definitely more realistic compared to the "pew pew" laser sounds we had before. But that doesn't mean they're good, at least in my opinion. I thought the old chromatics were great - I assumed they were changed because of the drama, but I've been told StickyBM did the old chromatics, not the composer themselves. It feels like the chromatics were changed for the sake of change, and they don't enhance the song. And the gun sounds are just plain distracting. There's a reason Stress from FNF Week 7 had those bass-y sounds and drums instead of actual gunshots, and it's because it sounded better with the song. Maybe if it was more of an industrial type of song, the realistic gun sounds would fit better. Now, I know I've been saying a LOT of fighting words in this one comment, but I want to make one thing clear. I _want_ Gunpowder to be the best song it can be. Since Gunfight is never being added to this mod, and for good reason, I want Gunpowder to recapture what made that old song so good in the first place. I want the people playing this mod for the first time to understand why I, and other Incident 012F fans from the early days, love the third song of the mod. If it were me composing Gunpowder, I think I would've kept much of it the same, (chromatics, vocals, inst,) but replaced certain sections with leitmotifs from Consternation or other famous Madness Combat tracks... and added a whole new section right where the song is supposed to end. The build-up to nothing always sounded strange to me. Maybe it would sound too similar to Gunfight, but I don't know how else you'd change it without making it worse. And that's why I don't like Gunpowder. It wants to have all the awesome melodies and difficulty of Gunfight, but it also wants to be a different song entirely. And I just don't like the ways in which it differs. And if I haven't made it obvious already, this isn't the most serious criticism I've ever written. I'm comparing slightly different versions of the same beep boop song from a years-old FNF mod. There's probably a bunch of people out there who prefer Gunpowder over Gunfight. Even when they ignore the awful context behind Gunfight, they might still think Gunpowder is better. More power to them. But until Lilac comes out with the second coming of Christ (Gunpowder V5), I'll still enjoy Gunfight more. And I'll still hate Gunfight's original composer.

@@botpenn4672 took my time to read this and I absolutely agree with you on some of your points with gunpowder, it's why I'm not the most fond of this song itself being so popular when there are so many things I nitpick with my OWN MUSIC. plus the fact that the other songs are much better in so many different ways. I always thought this song could absolutely be better in so many different ways especially because alot of the patterns I made for the song haven't changed at all since I first re-did them 2-3 years ago which is why Gunpowder (Finale) is gonna be completely different and have a totally different sound to it. I've also been spending the past few months or so working with bup on remixes and also working on original music, but I will say this now. Gunpowder Finale will be nothing like any of the versions before. I'm glad you took your time to leave this comment here

Also I'm gonna disagree with a couple things with you that I noticed in your comment, specifically with the chromatic. yes we did have to change it after the drama but I took several hours to make it sound the best that it possibly could, i personally feel like that it fits the songs a lot better now since they aren't as scratchy and as annoying sounding as the old ones were. I'd also like to say that I get where you are coming from when you say that you want the older vibe of the song back but I cannot bring that back simply because I really don't want to, the mod has taken a HUUUGE and totally different direction in vibe and just overall sound so going back to that old sound is simply not something I want to do, especially because because the old songs were made for an alien Hank.

@@BruhMomentLilac I wasn't expecting a response so soon. If I came off as harsh before, I do apologize. I meant to write in somewhere that I appreciate the work that was put into this. Somehow, that got lost in the translation from Brain to English. I didn't know there was going to be a Gunpowder Finale. "Completely different"... that might be the best route to take. The Monika mod from way back when had a similar problem with the song Dreams of Roses, and it was replaced by Bara No Yume. I actually liked the new song more than the old one in that case. I'm interested to see if Gunpowder Finale can persuade me like Bara No Yume did.
