Main error of substance is that I said a perch is 30.25 sq ft, rather than 30.25 sq YARDS. I also misremembered the exact distance of the opposing side when measuring the later sides, but that is trivial, as we acttually said and have the measurements. four sides are 27 ft 6 in, 36 ft 9 in, 35 ft 3 in and 27 ft 10 inch Okay, for accuracy I ought to have measured at least one diagonal, but I didn't think of that until afterwards. Assuming it is rought rectangular, we have approx 27.5 ft * 36.5 ft = 1004 sq ft approx. Divide by 9 get 111.6 sq yds approx Divide 111.6 by 30.25 gets 3.7 square perch, approx. I'm actually paying for 4.75 perch. I'll send an email to the AllotmentsOfficer next week, see whether they can measure my plot next time that they visit the site, so that it can be changed for next year. I'm paying £49.88 this year, so it is approximately a tenner too much.

Filmed it landscape, but it came out as portrait. Just to confirm, the aubergines were in the clay pot along with the chillies, perched above the radiator.
@TheGDJames3 күн бұрын
I think it is important to say that I've now slightly moved my clay pot containing the chitting seeds, so that it is on the window sill but still half-hovering over the radiator with a centimetre gap, rather than actually sitting on the radiator.

I tested tea against water a couple of years ago, and the tea wasn't better. However, what persuaded me to use tea this time was the comment about the tannin softening the seed case, as one issue I have is pepper seedlings being unable to cast off their case and I end up having to help the leaves extricate themselves.
@Jimmy.Plot.41.b3 күн бұрын
I use tea as i was told about it years ago, apparently the small amount of caffiene in the tea helps kick start the seed for germination, true or false i do not know, but i have always had quicker germination using cold tea rather than water or a damp piece of kitchen towel.
@Jimmy.Plot.41.b3 күн бұрын
If you mean the allotment of the dead longest chilli challenge you cannot use those seeds mate, you can only use either " Thunder mountain longhorn chilli seeds " or " Joes long cayene chilli seeds ". I have 2 spare of each variety i can send you if you want them. #AOTDLCC25
@TheGDJames3 күн бұрын
Ah okay. I thought that you could use any cayenne for the longest chilli. Never mind, they're sown now.
@Jimmy.Plot.41.b3 күн бұрын
@@TheGDJames No mate, only the 2 i named above, but there is nother part of the challenge, the heaviest amount of chillis from one plant, but that plant must be grow from an " Eclipse " seed. Grow as many plants as you want, but the weigh of the harvest can only come from any one of those plants.

I've decided that the light is a little bit too close to the onions as it is actually emitting heat, so I'm gonna raise it tomorrow so that it is about a foot higher than the onions.

i googled plants turning black when I got home. Looks like those broad beans that turned blue and then black may've been suffering from "overwatering". Makes sense, as they're at a low point of the plot.

After I recorded it, I thought it was one of my worst videos, as I was nervous about the singing, which I ended up speaking rather than singing, I dropped the seed packet, and when I opened it I spilt seed everywhere. Also, the audience will primarily be people who actually know their onions. However, after watching it, don't think it is all that bad. 😼
@Allotment-of-the-Dead5 күн бұрын
Lol, don't worry about it, whatever you can get going will be great! If the seeds you drop self seed they'll probably do better than the ones you intentionally sow. Lol. Such is the way of the gardeners lot! Anyway, enough of my ramblings, best of luck! Jason. 👍

A few misspoken bits there, it is broad beans on the right, not garlic, which was last year, field beans are cover crop rather than ground cover, and I twice referred to the dustbins as buckets. Also, Taylor's birthday was on the 13th. I knew it was somewhere in the middle of December but couldn't remember when.

The potatoes were an impulse buy, as i'd never seen potatoes in a paper bag before, and wasn't sure whether it was a temporary thing for Christmas, or something more regular. Would be better to buy the potatoes in a month's time instead. I've moved them from the back porch to a shed, as it will be cooler there.

Dear viewer may be wondering why I was so suggestible as to soak the garlic in chamomile tea. I've come across the idea of soaking garlic or other seeds in tea before, so to use chamomile tea instead isn't much of a stretch. Also, I dunno whwther this happens nowadays, but back in the 1980s women would drink chamomile tea to ease cystitis, which is a bacterial infection. So, if chamomile tea is a mild bacteriacide, my garlic would benefit from it as they have been leading an unhealthy lifestyle over the past few months.
@TheGDJames29 күн бұрын
Sorry dear viewer, this is probably the least interesting of my videos for you, but I recorded it as it was significant to me as I said in the pilot video that I would be comparing my broad beans to Keith's, and it was a relief that something had emerged through the mulch, even if it is something as hefty as a broad bean. I've just checked. The broad beans were sown in mid-November, so they've taken four weeks to emerge. Weather has generally been coldish in that period.

This is just a Pilot. Episode One will have a new, improved Penny. Recorded during storm Darragh, as I just wanted to get it done. I've got a camera on order, seems like I ought to get a microphone, pronto. I had an attempt at doing a video a couple of days ago, but I had problems dealing with a video editor, so did this video in one take on the phone in order to bypass a video editor. I'm eager to hear which video editor people would recommend for novices. I'll collect some logs and branches over the next few days, and then create another hugelkultur bed/area. Storm Darragh should help with that by providing branches laying around the place.
