It could never have happened and I'm glad it didn't. Look at how fans HATE the new Star wars movies. That's what would have happened to the Beatles even if all four were around to do it. It could never have been the same.

They never worked again because Costello insulted Paul in an interview with the following rdmarks: "those songs on the album were mostly mine...at one point, Paul said, 'we need a bridge!!!', he really writes songs that way!" Implying that it was stupid.
@cowsongs7 ай бұрын
You might read "Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink" by Elvis Costello, and give a look at the online video interviews of both Elvis and Paul talking about each other. And then there is Costello's performance of Penny Lane to honor Paul at his Gershwin Prize award ceremony. These two guys really like and respect each other. They aren't refusing to work together, and there is no anger, insult or feud going on. They have nothing but admiration and respect for each other's work and songwriting talent.

@@cowsongs That qoute from Elvis came from right after the sessions and McCartney was angered by it. Paul is careful about what he says as he is conscious of his legacy.

I am glad he got back to a happy place doing this album as shown by this recording. He thought he was going to achieve this with Phil Ramone (Billy Joel's producer who he liked initially) when he recorded Return to Pepperland previously, but unfortunately got into a fight over the drumming. Paul wanted electronic drumming. Phil wanted traditional. Phil won, and the songs were traditional drumming and actually pretty good including the title track you can find on KZbin. Unfortunately, when the album was finished Paul disliked it because of the drumming and would not release it. It became some B sides of this album instead, and someone posted the full album on KZbin which actually was pretty good as recorded.

I remember at the time Mc Cartney said working with Elvis Costello was the nearest person to John Lennon he had worked with . He mentioned Elvis Costello had that dry type wit much like Lennon and brought it out when they were writing songs for " Flowers in the dirt " .

Great footage, thanks so much for posting. I always wondered what the Paul and Elvis sessions back in the late 80s were like and boys we have got a good snap shot of them here. I sort of Imagined them to be more formal but obviously they were not. I think Elvis is slightly in awe of Paul (who isn't) whilst Paul is trying to put over, come on I'm just one of the lads. I think Paul was the best at socialising with other musicians out of all the beatles, John said that the beatles were the only people he'd ever played with and afterwards I think he found it a bit scary to work with new people. Probably why he had George and Ringo on the Tittenhurst Park albums. This clip also shows the evolution of my brave face, at the end it really is not far of the recorded version.

Based on a rough "banger" of a demo, you insult one half of the duo who wrote that great song? He and Paul complimented each other to come to a compromise between grunge and bubblegum to make it most excellent. Why can't you just enjoy that they collaborated to make something great instead of taking a cheap shot?

Is there a long clip of this somewhere because I recall seeing Paul calling Elvis Costello we can’t sing it like this. It sounds too much like the Beatles.. I was actually did, and they should’ve kept it that way because I like it. Anyway, what is the part where they sing? ‘Take me to that place’ sounds likeLennon and McCartney. I really wish they would’ve left it alone.
