Is this suitable in winter (-15°C)? And strong winds (20-30 km/h)? Thank you.

I just bought this Kings Tourer X and I love the tent but absolutely totally HATE the ladder you get with it- it has to be fully extended to lock and there is no way to lock the ladder at different heights which is FUcKiNG ridiculous and a woefully poor design. I have owned 3 different RTT and this is the first one that has a non height adjuastable ladder. Its on a vw Amarok Ute and fully extended the ladder is only 40 degrees to the flat surface and as I climb up the whole ladder slips out and it provided no support to hold the tent that was folded out. If I try shorten the ladder I cannot lock the ladder in place. Written to 4wd supacentre to ask how to adjust height of the ladder and they are telling me it’s not height adjustable. wtf! To sell this tent to vehicles of different heights the ladder HAS TO Be height adjustable AND lockable at different ladder lengths in order to properly support the RTT extended by the ladder . Your video makes zero mention of this so the review is poor at best.

Hi mate. When driving, there is more wind noise, like whistling sound coming from the crossbars and tent. That's about it. We didn't feel any movement or vibration. If you feel vibration or unusual noise, there might be some loose points on your siderail, crossbar or tent mounting brackets. If you can't find any fault but still feel unease, have it checked by an expert to be safe. Hope this helps

Hi mate, your videos are so helpful and inspiring on using the RTT... just one thing I'm concerned about is the daily usage when RTT is mounted on the car and how easy it is to mount and dismount whenever required. Post your thoughts on this please, thanks
@4theroad
@4theroad 11 ай бұрын
Thanks mate. Appreciate it. Well, I haven't taken it off the roof since we had it. I was thinking of dismounting it but requires at least 2 people to do the job. I have searched thru youtube and most people that own RTT's installed hoists in their garage to dismount it. Kind of looking into that idea because we don't go camping that often and it is an additional 68Kg on a daily driven car. I think investing on a hoist system would be a good option.

Great video, I bought one and had no idea what the hell you used the extra pole for. I see someone has commented on that so thank you. Just one thing with roof racks and cross bars. For example, if your roof rack solution has a product load rating of 100 kg, your roof box has a load rating of 90 kg and your vehicle's roof has been rated by the manufacturer as being able to hold up to 80 kg, then the maximum you can have up top is 80 kg. As I said most vehicles, for example, most 4WDs can handle up to 100kg, with a few exceptions rated at 150kg. Very few reach a capacity as high as 200kg, such as the 200 series Landcruiser.
@4theroad
@4theroad Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Had the same issue with the mystery pole. Thanks to @nathanjessup8409 for sharing what it was for. With regards to roof load limit, I totally agree with you. We have to check the dynamic and static roof load limits before buying RTT or any other aftermarket roof attachments. The car user manual should have that information. If it's not there then the other options is to check the manufacturer website or online forums.

It was very good in the rain. We had 2 camping trips that had a decent amount of rain and there was no leaks inside the tent. There was a small leak coming from the zip that connects the RTT and annex tent but that was my fault. I didn't secure the flap cover for the zip.

Been there once, some great hiking and in summer with the creek/river running off the back of the camping sites you can sit your chair in and have a few beers!! I'm looking at RTT's at the moment. I think condensation is part of all tenting so nothing to be worried about as long as you let it dry! Do you still recommend the RTT? Looking at a different brand (Canyon) but large investment
@4theroad
@4theroad Жыл бұрын
The place was nice. Lots of camping sites. We weren't lucky enough to get a spot beside the river. Yes condensation is definitely part of tenting. Can be lessened but can't eliminate it. I would recommend the RTT. Before we had our RTT, we used an awning with a tent attachment. Worked alright but we need more space so we thought of getting a gazebo. Too much gear to carry in a small car. So then we decided to go for the RTT. We couldn't think of anything better than this (apart from buying a volkswagen California camper van). With the RTT, it is easy to setup and you are off the ground so it is warmer. I think the downside of having an RTT is it's full time on the roof of our car. We decided to buy this brand of RTT because it suits our budget at that time and also it was one of the cheapest in the market. Other more expensive brands might offer more quality on their product. The RTT works for us. If you don't mind, I would suggest you try it out first then see if it's right for you. I believe there are some rental shops that has RTT's. Hope this helps.

Oh , it's warm alright😉 We have just spent 36 straight nights in the RTT. Travelling from Sydney to Port Douglas over 4 days, then two weeks in Cooktown where we had heat, rain (18mm overnight) and high winds. Then back to Port Douglas for more heat and heavy rain. The tent managed all without any I'll effects. We use a Kings rechargeable fan which lasts overnight on one charge. Incidentally, when it has rained, give the overhang above the ladder a tap to get rid of water droplets. If not, they run straight down you neck😮😂

Hi with the spatula idea we use bungie cord rope and feed it through the eyelets in the side windows first go through the side window eyelet at the front of the car and then thread it in the eyelet at the back window ps where you put the spring poles and as you close the top pull on the bungie rope to pull in the canvas which pulls the sides into the middle of the roof top tent works great on bigger cars also we leave the floor attached to the annex and fold it all together and as for the pegs we dont use them we use coach bolts and a cordless drill. hope this helps.....
@4theroad
@4theroad Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I actually tried the bungee cord before. I also attached a carabiner on both ends so its easy to hook onto the eyelets. But I think I used a weak bungee cord thats why it didn't work. I'll try it again. Also thanks for the tip on leaving the floor attached to the annex. That's a great idea!

Hi, I am glad you found the kitchen spatula idea useful. As for the mystery strut, we found that it should clip to the centre of the door frame using the 'C' clip end and bracing against the hard shell with the closed end. Any video we have seen, as well as the setup in the Kings store, leave this item out, as it blocks access to the sky opening. I believe it to be largely redundant, but perhaps in a very strong wind it could offer extra strength. Who knows right?😉 Happy camping, to you and yout family. My wife and I are starting a road trip tomorrow from Sydney to Port Douglas over 4 days so we will not bother with the annexe tent but thank you for the guidance.👍👍👍
