Before the internet, there was my grandpa, who knew how to take apart ( VCR, CARBERATORS LAWNMOWERS, Install Light sockets, satellite dishes when they were massive. ) and much more. I asked how he knew and he said he used to pay for classes. How the world has changed. Now this stuff is free, but at the store eggs are $12-$20. Thanks. I'll be doing this soon.

This is great! I just replaced six of them in a room we’re redecorating. So weird though, one of the old ones has only 1 black and 1 white. How did both sockets ever work?
@surferdude64227 күн бұрын
The screws on the side are connected by an external plate, so you only need one white and one black for both sockets to work. When there's only one black and one white and no pigtails are used, it means it is the end of the run (last receptacle on that circuit). When there are 2 black wires and 2 white wires it's a middle of the run receptacle and one pair is used to feed receptacles downstream. Pigtails are commonly used when connecting downstream receptacles without using the current receptacle as a connection device. The wires are connected usually with a wire nut using a short wire (pigtail) to connect to this receptacle location.

Hahahaha ... Thank you so much 3:53 For bringing that to my attention I brought a whole bunch of gizmos and tools to try to determine where everything is supposed to go because I didn't see where it said " hot" and "white"

Thank you so much! I never knew that it was marked on the back of the outlet. I got new ones to change and decided to watch a video to see how to do it. ( first time for me changing outlets ). Again thank you! 😊

The last white wire is incorrectly secured. Turn the hook you made so that it points in the direction of the tip of hook. This results in the screw pulling the wire tighter as you tighten its screw.

What do you do if it won’t come out of the wall? I’m pulling hard and it won’t budge. Only a couple inches out.

Family member is an electrician. Some other recommended steps they recommend is: 1) buy a non-contact voltage tester pen, theyre like $15-30 and you can just stick them in any hole or on any wire in a socket/faceplate and test if any wires are still hot. 2) Wrap the outside of the outlet entirely in electrical tape after screwing everything down (around the outside/screws, not the back of the outlet). This should hopefully prevent anyone from getting shocked when replacing/messing in the faceplate should it be necessary. Its not required, just really good practice.

We can just shut off the main power, as well, right, cuz I’m on my own and not wanting to play the what switch goes where game…already aggravated I must do this at all, but I’ve waited too long for the other person living here to handle it. Thanks for the step by step. Now to find all the necessary “utensils” 😣 🙄
