Some really lovely vehicles there which take me back more than a few decades to when I wanted a '59 225 Electra flat-top but ended up with a '59 Fleetwood instead! I did not expect a 105E Anglia van to be driving around either!

I first visited the araa in 1978, an aunt and uncle had moved to Oulton Broad from London ; the line was still double track then, and both platforms were open. One stop down the line at Beccles, the second platform was closed at the same time as Oulton Broad South, but has since reopened as an additional passing loop.
@MervynPartin7 ай бұрын
I was surprised to see a comment on this video as it's 14 years since I uploaded it. I had forgotten that the trains were then being operated by National Express. I hope that the line thrives as it is a lovely area. I believe that the new loops have allowed an increase in the service. Thank you for watching.

Just revisited your delightful video and have a cheeky question. The background sound @2.50 sounds rather like London Transport's sub-surface stock? The raised cable run between the signal box and road overbridge is a really nice touch - Colin. 🙂
@MervynPartin10 ай бұрын
Thank you for your kind comments, Colin. To be honest, I haven't been as meticulous as I should have been with my filing system- indeed I seem to have lost some precious ones since moving home. I used to make tape recordings in the 60s and 70s and also had some commercial sound effects vinyl records. I have more recently used my camcorder to obtain sound tracks and then used them on my model railway videos. The particular track in question might well be a London Transport tube train (rather than surface stock). I have avoided using sounds of modern trains as the sounds are completely different. Thanks again for watching....Mervyn

@@El_Transportacoches_33 It is not very big, but is called Cathedral Junction Shopping Mall. On Google there is a lot more information on it. KZbin constantly surprises me. I hadn't seen this video before, despite all the time I spend looking at all things Great Western! As many of the other comments have already said, this was an excellent video, very nostalgic and so typical of a different world that once existed. To tow a locomotive that had been standing outside since May 1963 when it was withdrawn from Llanelli would be considered madness in this day an age, but you succeeded.

way is there a fire burning in the fire box. I am guessing that's after they had done the restoration work on the engine?
@MervynPartin2 жыл бұрын
That was actually several years before the restoration work was complete. The fire was filmed during the haul from Woodhams scrap yard in Barry to our base in Caerphilly. Being big kids at heart, we had a few oily rags burning on the grate in the firebox, and Peter Rich could be seen demonstrating how to "fire" with an empty shovel. The flames looked fiercer than they actually were. You may notice wisps of smoke coming from the chimney in some shots. It gave the waiting passengers at Cardiff General (as it then was) and Queen Street something to look at as we passed through. Many thanks for watching and commenting.
