It's interesting to me that this movie makes no mention of Neal Cassady, one of the strongest Beat influencers and lover of Ginsburg for 20 years.

THANK YOU for posting this !!! I am doing research on a long forgotten speakeasy in my house - Edie's paternal grandfather was a master of world languages a literary scholar - and that's interesting - but how does Edie relate to my old speakeasy ? Well Edie's paternal grandmother is the reason my property exists - Edie's grandmother was extremely progressive and influential in suffrage movement and unknown to most the land development of Detroit - Edie mentions what a strong mother she had - which would lead me to believe that her maternal grandmother was as progressive and strong as her paternal grandmother - it seems Ms Edie was brought up to be exactly who she was - progressive - literary - creative - and unafraid .... surrounded by 3 progressive - intelligent - and creative women - almost as if the universe prepared her for her role .....

In case you want a bit more Howl, there's an excellent dramatic reading of this on KZbin, done by none other than Allen Ginsberg himself! :D kzbin.info/www/bejne/rl6zY5l_gdh_fpo

Nice presentation. Well Done and entertaining. Many think of the Beats as diamonds, a metaphor of perfection and aims, symbolizing the best. Lucien Carr had something real to contribute. Much like Herbert Huncke, Gregory Corso & Franz Kline would have influance later. Lu C. in the Sky with Diamonds.

Burroughs was not rich, his family had sold the Burroughs corporation a while back. He did get money from his family, but not a lot. That’s why he stole and bartered for drug money during the 40’s.

I think this video just added 10 years onto my lifespan, the most insightful thing I've watched? read? listened? to in a long while, this was just hands down brilliant. I have never experienced so much excitement over a commentary video yet here we are, please never stop. The script of the film is worth visiting too, it's a shame how much they had to cut out but understandable considering the resources they had at their disposal and the length it would've been.

I'm sure someone has pointed out that there is a photo of Allen Ginsburg with Neal Cassady (N.C., secret hero of these poems, cocksman and Adonis of Denver) The events of Kill Your Darlings occurs before Neal is introduced to the group.

I've read some of their letters. Allen, Lucien and Jack do remain close even after the murder. In fact, they still constant hang out and went on faraway trips together.

I actually ended up getting into Beat Generation writing after seeing "Kill Your Darlings:", since the whole Beat craze was before my time. It's hard to find info on Lucien Carr because he tried so hard to bury the history stay anonymous after (lol, as if that was possible after a literal knife murder. Also, the other Beats still wrote all about it and it was very obvious who they were writing about, hah). Thanks for providing a readaloud of the Lucien excerpts here. I would love a video of the audiobook in full. Would also love to see Lucien excerpts from some of the other biographies too. Also, despite Kerouac's stream-of-consciousness writing style, this is actually a really good readaloud of it. Thanks for sharing! :D

Thanks! I'll probably read content from Edie Parker's "You'll Be Okay" next, which also covers those events/ Lu/Dave. It's a good cross-reference in learning which events were factual, since unlike Vanity of Duluoz, her book is an actual autobiography rather than a "semi-autobiography."
