Start out really rich on both Needles. .5 mm on idle gap. Get engine warmed up before adjusting high speed 1st 1hr at a time in till it has good speed then adjust low speed same way and that'll get you in the ball park .then fine Tune from there. You need a temp gun and basics of How the Engine works 1st before you do anything. Read up on the engine you have and what Nitro percentages to run .but used Engine's can be mis treated before you get Them and that's the problem with used Engine's .if you don't see snoke its lean and will run hot and lose Power and destroy Engine. . Hope that helps 👊

Do they still sell Orion Nitro the green stuff? Thats all my HPI would run clean on i remember try Orion mix hpi are very fussy to run on anything else could jaut be wrong fuel! Well it is its to blue the smoke!
@EmtbtodayАй бұрын
Flip it upside-down when get a runaway stall it older HPIs done that alot i remember had to quickly flip it to cut it out, never leave the stsrter plugs on HPI coils longer than 10 seconds they will cook the coils in glow plugs very easily! Like a rule we had back in the day!

Running bit rich alot blue smoke there, or piston rings cooked! Don't think its the right mixture for HPI shouldn't be running so blue like just to low end fuel running to rich! Hpis were a nightmare for running Nitro was only Orion Green it used to run good on!

Always wanted one of these myself, but they hold their price well in the UK. From the other videos I have seen, you need to lower the COG centre of gravity. Brass add on weights on the axels, wheels, diffs.
@carlsamuelRCАй бұрын
@Matt.hurst1980 yes brass portal axles and a few other brass bits etc and steel wheels would help, they do hold price but if you keep a look on ebay/marketplace they do pop up at a good price just gota be quick as they dont stay on.

You should reset the needles and start again. You should learn how to tune the engines the problem is the tuning and not necessarily the engines. In your on-road car maybe you burned the engine that's why you saw the white steam. Download the manuals from these engines or send an email to the makers of these engines to send you a pdf if you can't find the pdf of the engines. Don't quit. Don't forget that the rc engines because they don't have a computer brain like the cars they need tuning a lot times especially when the weather change. The cars engines have a computer and continuously retune the engines. The hobby rc engines work manually and because they don't have computer to retune automatically you should tune them manually. Don't quit so easily. Disassemble the on-road engine and see if something is cracked or bend i think the on-road engine needs repair or buy a new engine.
@carlsamuelRC2 ай бұрын
@but531 that is my plan as the needles could be way out from the box standard tune which is a starting point, a quick google search and i should be able to find them.

3.5 turns from closed, on high and low speed needle, should get you close to factory settings, from there lean out progressively at approx 1/8th to 1/4 turn at a time, as long as it's smoking at full throttle you should be alright. I've bought a few of these in my time and previous owners always forgot about the idle screw, if you're having starting problems turn that an 1/8th clockwise till it starts and idles consistently. Nitro versus electric is a great analogy of trial and error vs. Instant gratification, I say that as a lover of both mind you. Just stumbled across this channel and love the content, don't give up on the nitro just yet, when sorted they make for a very unique bashing experience.

@@carlsamuelRC almost forgot to add, a higher percentage of nitro makes for a larger tuning window and better performance whilst still being able to run rich. Yeah I fell out with it a lot at the start, once you get it though you'll find it just as easy as electric.

The small holes in the body never worked well for me as a kid, not enough airflow. Gotta cut a bit window out in front of and behind the engine. Also, a quick easy temp check from back in the day was to spit on the glowplug. It should kind of sit there and boil for a few seconds before evaporating. That thing definitely got hot. Surprised it recovered as well as it did.
@carlsamuelRC2 ай бұрын
@Exodus2pt0 yeh more than likely, also the back needs airing as there's no in & out flow through the body so probably remove both on next run, running a shell makes massive difference to temps!
