It's sort of a lament to the love he never received from his parent. Dispite the lovely jazz phrasing, it ends sadly. It sounds to me like a jazzy call for help.

Sounds great! Bix's playing is wonderful, and I noticed Adrian Rollini's name- Im assuming he was playing the bass sax- very hard to play!

What a joy & delight to watch ! I especially love the heartwarming home movie footage of a smiling & happy Robert Ryan (one of my all time favorite actors). I assume the young lady with him is his daughter Lisa. I remember going to the drive in as a teen with my mom & younger brother to see "Capt. Nemo & the Underwater City" when it first came out. Also saw one of Mr Ryan's last films at the drive in with friends, "Lolly Madonna XXX". One of the screen's greatest & most iconic actors.

What a wonderful comment, you really made my day! Yes - I’m Lisa - that’s me in the home movie! It’s rare to get a positive comment about this video, most people think it’s really weird - so THANK YOU!

@@MookRyan You're quite welcome. An honor to meet you, Ms Ryan ! My late mom (who I think I inherited by love of vintage movies from) also adored your dad. One of the prized books on my shelf is the 2015 biography of your dad (by J. R. Jones), "The Lives of Robert Ryan". Thank you for taking the time to reply to my comment. Hope you & ALL those you love have a wonderfully happy Holiday Season and glorious New Year !! 🙂

Wow! Immeasurably blown away. I'm here after reading this intense, illustrated book by Scott Chantler about Bix's life... no words... just a brilliant graphic exploration highlighting his troubled life. I had no idea he died at 28 from alcoholism. He was supremely talented. Begs the question: what other incredible music would he have left for us had he not succumbed to the heinous grip of his addiction?

This composition was inspired by the misterious Cloudy Bix wrote ( or just played on piano?) and never bothered to register... poor soul.

Isn’t this the piece that fellow played at his Piano in the Playboy Jazz video? I think Scott Black or someone told me Bix likely didn’t write it.

I've been waiting for someone to point this out! Although it's highly unlikely that Bix had anything to do with "Cloudy", I love this recording by Randy Sandke and it just felt like the right music for the subject matter.
@randysandke5004 жыл бұрын
There are several sources that say Bix wrote a piano piece called "Clouds," or "Cloudy." Is this it? No one knows and probably no one will ever know. I just think this piece is too good to have been written by Charlie Davis. And why would he lie about it instead of saying that this was something he wrote inspired by Bix?
