The information here about the moving heads is mostly false and I would have appreciated it if you did have a direct link for videos (especially by yourself) to explore such examples in depth to support what you said about them. Just talking about it doesn't help your argument. What you essentially suggested was bigger means better. True, most people want the moving heads for a variety of reasons and one of those are to having one that moves around, portability, easy to setup, and adjust the brightness through the DMX. However, you will find there are a lot of mini moving heads examples on youtube that will give a light beam. To make this work, this is dependent on how dark the room \ place is and how much brightness you push through the light. If you add a degree of mist, you'll get an even stronger looking beam appearance.

What's a good box for the power supply and controller? Power supplies usually generate a bunch of heat, so I'm guessing a fully sealed box would be a bad idea.

New to all of this and love the videos. I got one of these controllers and was going to try and have a simple animation for a prop on an SD card in the controller but every time I try to select it for SD mode, it says no card inserted. I know the card works, had it in a camera and inserting into my pc reads it fine. Is there anything special that would need to be done to get it to read the SD card? It a bit late for this year but if I want to continue this route with the genius it was be nice to know. Thanks!

if you are working with a 2d photo how do you deal with lights that wrap around the eaves, you will need to know how many more feet or pixels, i would think... pardon the newbie question...but i live in a corner house, regards😀

Xlights is the worst program on my PC. Constantly crashes, soooo many bugs, this year, it wont even open. Just says program not responding. Dont waste your money on the HinksPix controller from Holidaycoro and dont waste your time with Xlights.

Hi, I'm very interested in doing a large outdoor pixel grid display as an amateur for my home. Though one thing that I'm having trouble finding any feedback on from people who do videos on lightshows is operating temperature of pixels. I live decently up north and our winters can get cold(close to to if not at 0 deg F most of the time, and can get lower), which adds to my confusion as to why I've almost exclusively seen people do lightshow videos in clear weather without so much as a jacket on or a puff of frost from their breath. Are lightshow displays not meant for cold winters with lots of snow(we get plenty of inches each season)? I really wanna do something special for my mother when she visits as a gift, as she loves the winter holidays but also reminisces about storytelling in the cold as a child so I wanted to build an outdoor display and program each pixel to showcase a simple animated story(a ballet dance for example).

They're fine, they do great in any temperature. My show has run at -5 degrees Fahrenheit, no problem. Others in the north (I know a guy in upstate WI) run their stuff all the time, no problems.

They don't really deliver a Sequence that can be edited. They deliver a FSEQ file so all the effects are hidden from the buyer. The whole process is pretty interesting and quick, the buyer uploads two files and then moments later you download a FSEQ file that you can view but not edit. The idea that you don't have to understand sequencing falls on it's face. In my case there was a mismatch between the FSEQ file and the MP3 Audio file that I downloaded from EZRGB's link. So I was immediately troubleshooting issues. Also, there are video's showing how to import FSEQ data and convert to effects in the sequencer. This did not work with the EZRGB files and crashed my Xlights multiple times. It has the appearance that EZRGB has placed a poison pill into the FSEQ file. So any changes to your layout will result in re-purchasing the Sequence every year. I don't see how this can be a long term solution for most Xlighters. Caveat emptor

Hello David. On the NBG's, do you have to increase the brightness to match that of the regular pixels? I saw some where 30% brightness on the bullets pixel were higher than 30% on the NBG's. And what number of gamma should i increase the NBG's to on the dimming curve in xLights for richer color?
@LearnChristmasLighting
@LearnChristmasLighting 10 күн бұрын
Every bullet pixel from every vendor/factory has some level of variation, so it's hard to say. Because of the different lens types, it's difficult to give a direct comparison, but I run bullets and NBG's side-by-side in my show and I'd say the NBG's look just a hair brighter, but not a ton. Gamma - because of the white lens, I don't see the need to adjust Gamma.

Look into robo grip pliers. I can change out a bad pixel in seconds with my " jump bag". Precut double pixels, wire cutters, robo grip pliers and click its. My routine is to 1. pull out the bad pixel and the one prior to it. 2. Turn off prop. 3. Cut out pixels. 4. Put my click it in the data in side. 5. Turn prop back on. Once new pixels are lit i put the last click it on and your done.

Hello and thank you for all your tutorials. I’m new to xlights and I have seen others that have Twinkly lights are mapping them and then using Xlights to enhance their abilities. I really would like to try this but it’s all a little perplexing for me. Any suggestions on how I would get started with my existing setup? I’ve provided a link below of my current setup. Thanks for any advice. 👨‍🚒🚒🎄 kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5ukk3eNbNeJbJYsi=H_caD90V6h9Cd-Gi

David/all, great video. Using server PSUs with power break out boards for years with no hassle. Super reliable. I am expanding my display. Still have PSUs, but need new power distribution boards. Can you recommend a reliable source? Ideally from within EU.

Thanks for posting. Very helpful when one is a new user and cannot even remember simply how to visualize, select a port for your layout and then upload. This is a go to video. Got my tree functional, just moments ago. My controller is resting outside on the front porch and I an connected with fairly good 2.5 Ghz wifi router signal. Life is good. Using a Kulp-K8 with a BeagleBone. The tree does all I really need it to do. 100 inches tall. Thank you.

There are definitely a few variations from a few different factories at varying quality levels. Our NBG's are some of the best, but yes, there are some vendors using the same factory (we are about 99% sure)
