I was a little upset at Jaime for beating John so badly. John has done so much for Jaime. Plus John wasn't fighting back. Such great performances from the actors. I love this series.

I think Jamie’s initial reaction was the calm before the storm, which happened when he mistakenly assumed that LJG had “buggered” her when he and Claire shared their night of grief. By LJG’s statement that “We were both fu**ing YOU”, he triggered Jamie into believing buggering had taken place. If they had only made love, I think he would have been OK with it.

I would really love to see Jamie apologize to Lord John after beating him up! And to see Lord John keep up his defiance of Jamie. I loved seeing Jamie & Claire, back together, except for the table, could have been more comfortable!! But loved seeing them doing more than just kiss and then it fades to black! This is the Jamie and Claire that we all love, just their total passion for each other. (from Sandi)

Yeah. I certainly hope Claire and Jamie do something to redeem themselves with LJ. I was quite frankly disgusted when they did what they did on his dining table knowing he has been left for dead. After everything he has done for them both.

I am a big fan of this series but this episode was a bomb for me. The whole William behaving badly and Jamie beating Lord Grey and leaving him to a questionable fate with the soldiers was nasty. Then we had to watch Claire and Jamie talking through her dalliance with John Grey and trying to explain the unexplainable IMO. So many things in this episode were time wasters and did not move the story along much. Maybe Jamie was adversely affected by his sea voyage but he seemed out of sorts; and why on earth didn't John and Claire explain to him immediately the fact Claire was accused of spying and that John married her to save her being arrested and tried? Makes no sense at all.

1:00 This is why we need the Lord John spin-off show to cover all those spin-off novels, novellas, and short stories - to show that Lord John doesn't just spend his time twiddling his thumbs waiting for Jamie to call. He is a man of action just like Jamie and spends his time taking care of EVERYONE around him. And he gets little to no thanks for his extremely selfless lifestyle. William isn't the only bastard of a friend he has supported. Brianna isn't the only pregnant woman he's looked after. He's hunted murderers. He's uncovered conspiracies. He's fought in battles all over the world. He cleared his dead father's name over a decade after everyone else in his family had given up. I HIGHLY recommend the Lord John books and hope the showrunners are smart enough to let David Berry lead a spin-off show. Sam Heughan can make a few cameos like Jamie does in the books, but ultimately it should be Lord John's show.

Absolutely agree with you, very well said! I made a similar (very long) comment on the last video of this channel, it’s very late where I am and I‘m too tired to edit it, so I‘ll just leave it here: »I‘m SO happy that they took this straight out of the books, pretty much word-for-word! The last few episodes (pretty much the whole season) has been magnificent, there are side characters and plots I‘m missing (like Hal, Dottie, Percy, Germaine etc.), but they stay very faithful to the source material with their main characters (also probs to last week’s ep!). All people involved - writers, actors, producers aso. - did a great job, also: When are we finally going to get our Lord John-spin off-series?! David Berry is so incredible and wonderful as LJG and I‘d kill to see the LJG novels/novellas adapted. I‘d love to meet all of his family, friends, and others on screen, and show more of his pretty snarky, cunning, daring side, his dry humour and how often he gets in trouble (I think the show has downplayed that a bit in the past and portrayed him as always pretty proper and level-headed, when he can also have a whole different side… but I think that inevitably comes with seeing him mostly in relation to the Frasers, when in the later books and his own series you see more of him also as brother, son, father, uncle, lover, soldier, spy, kinda sleuth aso…). But since the beginning every scene with David Berry as LJG has been a true pleasure to witness, and I‘ve always been a fan of this whole John/Jamie/Claire/William conflict/storylines in the books, because it’s just so messy and chaotic and complicated and brings out so many emotions in everyone. For those who think the “carnal knowledge” part was what made Jamie so extremely angry, it was absolutely more so the “We were both fucking you” part*, that definitely triggered his PTSD after what Black Jack Randall did to him. The first part made him heated, but without the second part things probably wouldn’t have escalated this severely (that’s NOT meant to be an justification/apology - what Jamie does here is absolute shitty and horrible - but an explanation). Remember Jamie’s reaction to John’s hand on his in Ardsmuir and then there’s also a TERRIBLE argument these two have in "Brotherhood of the Blade" (one of the LJG novels), that also almost ends in violence, I don’t want to spoiler things here, but let’s just say, Jamie and John there said truly fucked-up things to each other, that they likely later regretted, and something there really triggered Jamie’s BJR memories, too… as long as Jamie can ignore the fact that John is romantically and sexually attracted to him, this unlikely friendship between him and again an English officer and once jailer of him, can wonderfully work and be very equal and full of trust, respect and care, but here, well….. I’ve always really, really loved their friendship and I hope we’ll see them make up sooner or later (100% sure they’ll, especially because they’re so connected through William (in the books the Fraser and Grey families just become more and more connected), whose storylines btw are also beautifully adapted and portrayed!). Pleeeeease, STARZ, give us and David Berry the spin-off we all deserve! P.S.: *I think it’s also clear later in Jamie’s talk with Claire, when she compares what John did to her with triage, stopping the bleeding, putting his own grief, his own fury, over the welling blood of hers… (there’s longer, beautiful dialogue in the books…). And then Jamie uses a similar metaphor of feeling cut wide open, bleeding, raw, numb, when he says "And then there was William. When Geneva died and it was my fault, it was a knife in my heart - and then William... The bairn cut me wide open, Sassenach. He spilled my guts out into my hands. And that bloody English sodomite (I think in the show he just says “bloody Englishman”) bandaged me with his friendship.” Jamie I think feels betrayed in that friendship because it meant A LOT to him especially after the loss of Claire (and Faith and Brianna) and his freedom/culture/hope, first in Ardsmuir and later in Helwater (again with the basically loss of William) and it was a hard-earned friendship with a lot of repairing to do because of certain events/trauma/different backgrounds aso. (I can really recommend the dual John/Jamie POVs novel “The Scottish Prisoner” to anyone who wants to see more of this repairing their relationship). John not taking Jamie’s offer, when Jamie offered his body to him, played a huge part in Jamie’s growing trust in and admiration of John, and I guess (due to the Jack Randall trauma) Jamie feels violated and betrayed in their friendship. « Also said in another comment »(…) Would also love to see Hal, Tom Byrd, Benedicta, Minnie, Percy, Harry Quarry, Stephan von Namtzen, aso. LJG is my favourite character, too, and he sometimes gets in so ridiculous situations (like people thinking he's the secret author of dirty poems, the electric eel party, all these duels etc...), David Berry would be amazing in a spinoff show!«

It gave me such satisfaction to see Lord John stand his ground with Jamie. I can understand Jamie losing it, but I don’t agree with it. Lord John was frustrated and I think he wanted to trigger Jamie who seemed so cavalier about it all. The commentary is spot on about Lord John sacrificing so much for Jamie but Jamie doesn’t see it. He starts to understand this after speaking to Claire. I can’t want to see how they all deal with this moving forward.

Why is Jamie being such an "ass" he leaves Lord John with folks who clearly have bad intent. IS this in the books-cause it's not playing well ON SCREEN. It's honestly not the beating up-it's the letting him go with those fellows and not trying to help him THEN... THAT SEEMS REALLY like immoral and selfish. LIKE many on Insta at least-- the love scene at the end didn't feel well done, esp from Kait. side. Also I think she played her character too HARSHLY I mean what man wouldn't be angry, she could have been a bit softer- I think it would have been more realistic that way given she now had the LOVE OF HER LIFE back, most women would have been softer and more vulnerable about the whole situation.

He's also very adaptable to changing situations and adept at dealing with people. We saw that in his role as Governor of Jamaica. The Lord John books delve much deeper into the political situation there with heightened unrest. He gets into some situations that should have been the end of him, but survives on account of his fearlessness aplomb and brilliant mind. Aspects of his character are, in many ways, what Jamie lacks--self-control in certain moments. That was evident in numerous incidents, but in particular when Fergus saved him from himself when he refused to free him from captivity on board ship. The Highlander in a kilt is a highly romantic trope, but the Fraser temper/Highland berserker, not so much. Throughout the books, the characters often read as plot devices--LJG, Fergus, Roger, Claire--coming in deus ex machina to save Jamie's ass.
