I know this will likely be unpopular opinion, but I think Gerard Butler did an excellent job considering he is not trained to the same extent as most of these guys. I really loved his performances in the movie - he has a very pleasant voice. That being said....nobody is topping Ramin!

I agree with the general consensus that Maria Aleida's staccato is impeccable and is among the best here. Rachele Gilmore is a personal favorite as is Sabine Devieilhe. Christina Johnston was very good also, especially holding the A Flat the longest of all the other singers presented here.

ted neely. hands down. no one will ever match ted neely and carl anderson, there were other great singers of course but those two stole the show. i saw JCS when i was kid and i still get choked up when i hear some of the performances. im in my 50s.....im not religious. but it doesnt matter. you dont have to believe for this music and story to affect you. the story is tragic whether jesus was the son of God or not. anyway, i have to go with Ted Neely even though his sample is the studio recorded version and the rest are live stage performances. ive never seen neely live but from what ive heard his live performance is excellent. honorable mention: steve balsamo and ian gillian

I like when Elphabas do the WRITTEN SCORE first Bring Me Down. 5:44 The pop to the F makes it too happy, poppy. It's a doom and gloom moment.

I am wondering whether David Miller, one of Il Divo tenors has ever sung this song. I have just found, so I am glad he has. I like his version, including the climax... he held that part longer than some of singers here.

8:36 David Phelps... I thought he would go with higher key, but not... quite disappointed knowing he could hit up to F5 with chest voice, while the highest note in this song with original key is "only" B4

2:41 Why did Michael Bolton sing in lower key ? I myself tried to sing in the original key, although failed to hold the long B4 note at the climax using chest voice only

K all of them great singers, but this song needs a bit of comedic flare, and I think Madeleine Khan nails it... Her half crazed facial expressions her feigned twitching she is acting like a desperate woman ready to flip. She's sorely missed.

If the question is "who sang it best?" and Pavarotti is an option, then that is the answer. Always. No exceptions.
