Am I a bad person for thinking this is ridiculously impressive for the brits - and insanely embarassing for the zulu? I understand the brits had guns. But they were single shot rifles... And there were only 100 something brits against 3000 zulus. People are acting like the zulu were getting gunned down by rapid fire machine guns... Which "demoralized" the zulus and makes people on the internet call them "brave" for charging the at brits... The zulus were supposed to be the best of the best. A true warrior culture. Pardon my ignorance but all I'm saying is if you put Caesar or Alexander in control of those 3000 zulus, the brits would've been obliterated. Like wtaf is this? Did the zulus not have generals or something that brought order into warfare? This is mind-boggling to me that this is real. Was the real defense point much more fortified than in the movie? Surely that's the only way this is justifiable.

Both Chard and Bromhead were outstanding soldiers and both had innate tactical skills that could shift defenses as needed. Sadly, they both died in their mid-forties. To get an idea of the actual battlefield terrain, go to Google Maps street view and but in Rorke's Drift and it lands on the battlefield's surrounding countryside. You'll notice that there are no high bluffs of cliffs surrounding the location of the battlefield as there were in the film based on these events. Stanley Baker said he did take a little creative license with the actual history. Private Hook was not really a malingerer as shown in the film but was a courageous soldier in real life.
