Hi Courtney, I am just curious but how did select good hagwons with good housing? Did you make sure they sent you pictures and videos before hand?
@courean Жыл бұрын
For this school, I had actually signed my contract before seeing photos of the housing (which I don’t recommend). I really lucked out with this place. It was in a newer area so the housing was very modern

I'm late to the party. Did EPIK / your hagwon set you up with this place, or did you use key money and get your own place? It's just that I rarely see foreigners in nice apartments. (But I haven't lived in Korea for 10 years. Maybe things have changed.)

Very enjoyable to listen to you. Don't know if you still live there, but have you thought of putting up a photo-rail? Such a system might be put up all the way up to the top edge between wall and ceiling and might not even be noticed by your landlord. It would enable you to put up pictures and art :)

In Greece teachers are paying everything eternally!!!! Half of income only for rent and bills without anything else... e.x sale on tickets for ships or bus if your work place is away from your place... They decided 100euro more to the already huuuuuuge salary exra if workplace is more than 200km far... Shame on them!!!!! And for 10 years fired on summers and due to that no able to take a loan to buy a house for example...

Hey Courtney, thank you for clearly laying out the required steps for applying. I’m considering making the move to South Korea. I’m curious what the interview process is like; what kind of questions should I expect?
@courean3 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome! I think it really depends on the school. I had an interview where really the only question was whether or not I liked kids. For my current school, they asked if I liked kids, but also questions about class management (like how I would discipline a misbehaving child) and how well I work with others.

i love your energy! question, how did you pay for everything you ordered while in quarantine?
@courean3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! At first, for some of the the food I ordered (like through Yogiyo), I had a Korean friend order and pay for me and I paid her back after I got out of quarantine. I didn’t order any household things while in quarantine but when I got out, I still didn’t have a Korean bank yet so anything I needed, I used Emart mall and Gmarket because they accept international cards.
@DeliaX3 жыл бұрын
@@courean oh blessed you got a friend to order for you! :) Is there a way for those with only a Korean debit card to shop on Korean sites online? Can you still use food delivery apps without a Korean credit card?
@courean3 жыл бұрын
@@DeliaX Gmarket and Emart mall are places where you can shop for things with an international card. On Yogiyo you can order using the cash on delivery option with restaurants that offer it.
@DeliaX3 жыл бұрын
@@courean oh I meant besides emart mall and gmarket since you had already mentioned that hahah. Nvm, I was just wondering cause I've heard people use something call isp pay book which connects their number to their bank account so it allowed them to pay for things online without a Korean credit card even on sites that only accept Korean credit cards. Just wondering if you heard of that and would have suggested it cause it sounds kinda sketchy imo LOL

This is sooo pretty, I’m doing a lot of research about studio apartments in Korea bc I want to get one and move over there but I don’t know how much money I would particularly need, and I would hope to get one like this and I know you don’t pay rent or anything bc ur got it for free as a teacher but by any chance do you know how much the rent and deposit would be if you did have to pay?
@courean3 жыл бұрын
Your rent and deposit would depend on what kind of place you're getting and where exactly it's located. I'm not sure how much the deposit is but I think the rent is somewhere around 500,000 or 600,000₩? Not 100% sure though

Actually watching variety shows/youtube channels and those videos KPOP groups do (Run BTS, Stray Kids has one too, etc) are a better way to learn a more natural way of speaking because sometimes, like with American TV, the writing can be a bit... romanticized? I guess. Like if you watch an American tv show often times people irl wont actually talk like that because its... well scripted lol. Plus with things like variety shows and youtube videos you can learn slang and even pick up on terms from different dialects!
