You didn't turn the gas off. You turned it to prime which is on whether the engine is running or not. I had a leak with mine no matter what position it was in. I put a shut off in line after the filter and it works. I later smacked the petcock with a screw driver and it turned off with the engine off like it was stuck open. That's good it works but it doesn't change anything. I still left the manual shut off in there and I just turn it off and let the ATV run until the carb runs out of gas. It keeps it fresh for when I start it again. Doesn't let the gas sit in there and clog things up. It also has a drain if I have the time to loosen it and drain all the gas from the carb.

Did you ever get this fixed or did you end up parting it out? I'm 99% sure ours has the same problem with the starter rod. Just have to tear it apart and see how damaged it is.
