Great video and thank you so much for the shout out! I’m so glad my pots are working for you. If you ever decide you want to try a traditional Neo pot please let me know. I have a small stash of black plastic ones from Japan. I keep trying to buy more as a know the manufacturer, but I cannot get a response, so I’m hoarding my last few in the hopes that I may be able to convince someone else to make them at some point. They are actually quite nice looking for being plastic.

Ah thats funny you saw this video. I'm more that happy to direct people to businesses I think are doing great work! The neofinitia ended up doing really well in that plastic pot. Perhaps I'll take you up on this in the future. I'd like to get another neo and try out that traditional potting method, its extremely elegant. I wonder if you can 3D print the pot since you have a model of one already 🤔I have no clue how that stuff works but maybe it can be like scanned or have a mold made from it? Then you don't have to rely on that manufacturer. Just a thought. Love your guys shop, keep it up!

The Gastrochilus japonicus I got from J&L in February is double spiking now. It was one of the first two mounted orchids I ever bought. Most of my orchids are on an west facing windowsill or in an east facing enclosed porch. The gastrochilus is currently in the porch with some new cattleyas that are in butterfly cages. The only pests I've encountered as far with orchid care are: fungus gnats, mites, and one tiny mealy bug.

@@Joe-nj3bb japonicus are gorgeous orchids. I’m eagerly awaiting the first blooms on my retrocalla. Butterfly cages are a great idea, shade and protection. I’m hugely envious of your enclosed porch. I look forward to the day I have a large space to grow. Long story short, the “pest” I have is an unidentified type of mite. I’m mostly sure they are not spider mites and don’t appear interested in eating any of the plants. Possibly a grain/soil mite or a predatory mite that was being used at some nursery I purchased from. I’ve since introduced a different predatory mite, so it will be a battle of the mites 😂 Happy growing 🙂

For me, part of the fun of growing orchids is the problem solving part, but my goodness these little guys stretch my patience 😂💀

What is the light that you are using? Can you give the wattage or amazon link ?
This is a good light for shady growers, not so great for Vanda types or similar light demands. I’d recommend a real grow light or something like the Arcadia Jungle Dawn or Vivarium Electronics LED if you need something super bright. But generally aquarium lights work well for orchids I think Hopefully this is helpful, if you have any other questions please let me know :)

......a very healthy orchid......and great selection!......hearing you say you have a interest in "how the grow naturally and that you try to replicate it".......tells me you will be a great orchid grower!.....I always tell my viewers go back to mother nature for the best information!.. you had good instincts on air flow for your pot choices....never to much air flow.......learn to feel the difference in weight of your orchids in thier pots.....wet weight vs dry weight.....very subtle difference but key to knowing when to water.....If you have 10 orchids they all will not need water on the same day.......you will,.. over time develope your own routine and become tuned into each orchids growing style and needs.........

Im constantly amazed by the efficiency and elegance of how these plants grow in nature. Something we can only strive to achieve

Hey hon, thanks for the shout out! I really appreciate it! Boy that reminds me of Bobby's terrariums! I miss Bobby at Cloud forrest vibes. He is such a sweet guy! He was going to come back but didnt. So far! I still hold out for hope! I was never brave enough to make a terrarium like that. I cant get those 'smart' set ups to work! They will not connect to my 2 gs. I even had the internet company help me and it didn't work. Tried twice. Cause they would make my life so much easier 😂 but you did a fantastic job! I love it! 😊 Love your kitty! 😊

...I really enjoyed your unboxing.....great choices.....Your editing was very nice as well.....but what really made me smile was your talk about nutrients.....small amounts all the time, macro and micro nutrients...I love it when growers get it....a very nice show....keep up the great work, I look forward to seeing your collection grow ....visiting Andy's Orchids would be a dream vacation......I would love a day of just walking around looking.....and probably another day for boxing up all my purchases...

Oh wow, thanks for watching Rick, that's very kind of you. Watching your videos was actually the catlyst that made my want to learn more about nutrients! I totally agree with your philosophy of trying to replicate the small amounts of nutrients orchids are constantly exposed to in nature. I'm still honing in on what works best for me and there is always a lot to learn, but I'm having fun doing it. Thanks for all of the information you've given everyone 🙂 And yes, visiting Andy's would be a huge priveldge, maybe less so for my wallet 😉
