Hey despite installing the script, typing textfiles -h wont work It says bash files are created , yet i cant find the bash files
@linuxworkshop6337
@linuxworkshop6337 5 ай бұрын
Try these instructions: 1. Download the script using curl: curl cis106.com/assets/scripts/tfi.sh -o tfi.sh This command should download the script and place it in a file called tfi.sh located in your current directory. 2. Confirm that the script has been downloaded sucessfully. Use the cat command for that. cat tfi.sh This should display the source code of the script. If you see any html in there is because you have a typo in the curl command or url you used. The script tfi.sh should contain only bash commands. Alternatively, download the script with a web browser by placing the url in the address bar. 3. make the script executable with: chmod +x tfi.sh 4. run the script with: ./tfi.sh 5. run the command: source .bashrc or restart your terminal 6. Now it should work as expected. If this does not work, let me know and Ill make a video about it.

Is there an equivalent to Windows Snipping Tool's Delay feature? Or a keyboard shortcut to take the screenshot (without clicking the program's icon)? Pretty important to take screenshots while going in dropdown menus or stuff like that you know... Thanks for the video!

I know that other screenshot applications are more feature reach than Flameshot. So likely other tools have this feature. I believe Deepin Screenshot allows you to do that but don't quote me on that as I only used it once a long time ago

not sure how to since I don'[t use Wayland. However, I just created a new vm and in the last update it seems that Flameshot now supports Wayland. I need to do more testing but if you give me some examples of the configurations that go away, it will help me replicate.

How can this run 24/7 ??
@linuxworkshop6337
@linuxworkshop6337 Жыл бұрын
If you need a server to be ON 24/7, Virtualbox on your PC is only a solution if you are ready to pay that electric bill. For this scenario, you need a VPS (Digital Ocean and Linode are cheap and good). The purpose of this video is for local deployment and learning. For instance, if you are a student and need a server to deploy some application, this is great to test. You can use a Raspberry Pi, but those are not cheap anymore. However, Mini PCs are affordable; most run Linux with no problem and don't consume a lot of electricity. If you choose the Mini PC route, you don't need VirtualBox; do a physical installation instead. To access your server from outside your home network, use a Dynamic DNS service or port forwarding in your home router. The earlier is a better solution.

Is better use the comandos ( to realize a minimal instalation (interface only): sudo apt-get install mate-core (apps included): sudo apt-get install mate-desktop-environment) to install graphic interface. But the tutorial is verry good, helped me, more one like
@linuxworkshop6337
@linuxworkshop6337 Жыл бұрын
While I agree that having a desktop environment on the server makes it easier to use, in the long run it hurts. The best way to learn Ubuntu server is CLI only because in the field, the server environment is mostly deployed as a container with minimal specs. Also, once you have setup the server and the applications you will host on, all of those software dependency for the DE are wasted space. The less packages and dependencies you have, the faster and easier it is to maintain a server. Also, thanks for the like! Much appreciated! 😀

@linuxworkshop6337
@linuxworkshop6337 Жыл бұрын
yes. How did you setup your network adapter in the virtual machine? is it NAT or Bridge? If you change it to Bridge your IP is assigned by the router and you will be able to access the server from your host OS. Also, you can do port forwarding. Here is a guide on port forwarding for virtual box: cis.com -> guides -> setup ssh guide (the first part of that document has an example)
