I reviewed the service manual and the both the diagram and instructions indicate that the rubber washer is to go between the up/down adjust bar and the boss that slides up and down in the 4 position track. It's not supposed to touch the windshield at all. So perhaps the factory is installing it incorrectly and why is it popping out of and around the head of the windshield installation screw. It doesn't go there! Unless the service manual is incorrect? I plan to visit my dealer tomorrow as see what they say.

Let us know what they say but don't be surprised if they quote the manual. Put it this way .... since doing this video I have had zero issues with this washer and the bike is now at about 8k miles. 😏

My dealer has a few pre-2024 900/850s still in stock and all have the washer between the lifter bar and boss. Not between the lifter bar and the windshield. So I ordered new washers and will correct mine. Appreciate all your posts!

Mr. Goat. Why this unit and not the Chigee?? Just curious as I have thought about getting a unit for my GSA but I’m not sure. I need a unit that is plug and play and works with the wonder wheel and fits into there BMW Navigator cradle
@GrumpyGoat
@GrumpyGoat 4 күн бұрын
I bought the Carpuride over the Chigee for 2 main reasons - price and the lack of a need to be used with the wonder wheel, as it was going to be primarily used on the Tiger 900 Rally Pro. For me to spend Chigee money I need to be convinced that I need CarPlay and that is best done with a cheaper unit. I just finished doing 853 miles with the Carpuride and will have a follow-up video review. Keep watching the channel. 😉

@GrumpyGoat
@GrumpyGoat 5 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment. However, I believe the WunderLINQ does not provide CarPlay and if that is desired then one has to get one of these types of unit. What would make sense would be to combine the WunderLINQ with one of these units to get the jog wheel integration, but then the Chigee unit has that.

Regarding the speedo over reading, i thought the exact same thing when i test rode both the 24 rally pro and gt pro. They read about 5mph over at 40mph, and similar all the way up! I checked my 23 STRS 765 with my phone and its very accurate in comparison, showing 1-2mph over at the most!
@GrumpyGoat
@GrumpyGoat 12 күн бұрын
Exactly. Some bikes are within 1 mph and others are way off, and the forums are full of people who make all sorts of excuses for this nonsense, claiming they do it for legal reasons etc. Laws establish tolerance on accuracy (i.e. + some number / - 0) which is not a requirement to overestimate speed. My GMC struck is dead on at all speeds and the Tracer was acceptably close to dead on. The BMW and Tiger I have are a joke when it comes to the speedometer.

I have the exact same issues as you. Same speed, same shimmy. My bike is a 2023 V-Strom 800DE. At 2,400 miles the rear tire was shot. I replaced both with new Shinko 804/805 knobbies (a tire I've run before on many different bikes). Unfortunately I also replaced the rear shock spring for a slightly stiffer spring at the same time. I now have the same handle bar shimmy as you. No amount of preload adjustment +/- has fixed it. The bike should have proper ride height, rider sag, etc. I have aluminum panniers but no top box. Increasing front tire pressure seemed to make the most difference. My problem must be related to: 1) the new tires or 2) incorrect geometry due to firmer rear shock spring. I may reinstall the OEM front tire today to see if the problem goes away. Thanks for the video.

Great review! I have never found a soap that was magical, where you dont have to agitate the surface with a cleaning towel. The only thing he didn't do, was per the S100 instructions, use high pressure rinsing. In my opinion, BMW bikes especially, using high pressure water is asking for trouble, it causes water intrusion into the drive assembly, switch gear, electronics, wire harness, relay switches, lighting connections, etc.
@GrumpyGoat
@GrumpyGoat 19 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment. That was the point of my video - no such cleaner exists, and I would even go so fa as to say, even when high pressure rinsing is used - where the pressure is *reasonable* - the grime will not come off. Not with S100, not with anything. Same with a foam cannon applied with a pressure washer and then rinsed with the same pressure washer. The result is cleaner than the S100 (I think; never proven this side by side) but still not as clean as if some mechanical agitation is included. All detailers will foam and then agitate and then rinse. Any bike - not only BMW - using high pressure water *at high pressure* is asking for trouble and is plain dumb. That said, I do use a pressure washer from time to time, BUT I have the nozzle far enough away that it is not high pressure impinging on the surface.

@GrumpyGoat
@GrumpyGoat Ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. The oil plug washers on the R1200RS are actually not crush washers. They do not deform (crush and become flatter) with use. They are actually flat aluminum washers that would only deform (get thinner) with way more torque than you're supposed to apply to the plug. That would not be the case with a true crush washer which by its design would allow for some degree of flattening with the low torque for the oil plug, thereby achieving a better seal. I have reused these flat washers with zero leaks. Since they are cheap (last time the BMW dealership gave me one at no charge with the filter purchase) I bought a bunch of them on Amazon and guess what ... they are identical to the BMW ones. I reuse the previous one or use a new one depending on my mood ... 😏

@@the404man Some motorcycles have front end geometry that are more susceptible to small perturbations due to tire tread. My Tiger right now for example also has the wobble at about 40. When I changed the front tire on the Tracer to the Road Smart III the wobble immediately went away, so the tread pattern on the previous tire was the thing that caused the wobble to start, and then hit a resonant frequency making the wobble worse. I guess you just have to get the right front tire tread pattern for your bike.

Could you tell much difference between the Rally n Rally pro? Thank you!

Riding them on the street as I did (in both cases) - no, there are no perceptible differences.

Awesome, I just ordered one. Will my Goldwing be able to recharge it while I'm riding ?

Don’t see why not. It depends on how long you’re riding and charging.

I have a 2021 Tiger 850 sport. I used dealertool to reset my service interval, and it worked perfectly. I use an old laptop for the program, which makes it convenient to use in the garage. One silly thing came up that I thought was a problem with dealertool until I realized what I had done. The service interval came back on, and I couldn't reset it with dealertool. The interval was correct, and the date for service was next year. After refreshing some brain cells with a beer, I realized I had recently disconnected the battery and threw the clock out of whack. It also threw the date out of wack, and for some reason the date became the service interval's date. Once I reset the clock and calendar, all was OK again. I suppose the bike makes the calendar date the same as the service interval date so you know you need to do something with the bike. Clever and stupid at the same time.

@@petesterna1254 when it comes to electronics, “clever” and “stupid” are both excellent terms to describe a triumph motorcycle.😂
