my suggestion is to replace your water bottle with a single wall stainless steel water bottle. then you can put it directly into a fire to boil water. and replace the lifestraw with a Grayl water filter or a sawyer mini water filter. the grayl will purify the water in less than 15 seconds. and is good for 350 gallons. so i would also carry and extra filter. the sawyer is good for 100,000 gallons if used properly. way more than the lifestraw.

Since I posted this video, I have upgraded to a Pathfinder Water Bottle Cook Set, and I have replaced the Life Straw with a Saywer Mini. Get a few fleece tie blanket kits, cut the slits around the sides if not cut. Take a heavy duty large mylar blanket and use a good fabric glue to glue it to the fleece in spaced spots, centered. Add a few glue spots tp the mylar blanket and lay the second fleece piece on top and tie the slits. You now have a warm heat reflective blanket. Right now Joanne fabrics have them on sale. Instead of hothands get uniheat packs, the max at 100 f and safe for kids since they don't scald. They come in various hour choices. For my reptiles I have 40&72 hour packs. They have a few year shelf life and work for a bit past the expiration date. My 40 hour packs are a year past exp. Date, the test had it take over an hour to get to 90f and in a few hours it went to 80f and down. So you know I have had them four years now.

I'm in Southern Vermont, and sadly I'm living in multi story apartment building that's been converted from a high end Hotel. Close quarters and very limited on what we can do in and to our home. Its basically not my home and more like a condo which is concerning when wanting to reinforce and secure it. Really forces you to be creative and have to honestly make an effort not to be paranoid about what could occur work all these people do close together. Someone's gonna try to rob someone. It's a fact

First time viewer in this suggested video. This is good, and thanks for sharing. A couple of items you mentioned are things that I have developed over the last several years. First, water. 1 case of 40 bottles of water at Costco is around 5.4 gallons, all drinkable. Having a couple at all times helps you buy some time during outages or any time you need to hunker down. Very inexpensive. I would consider investing in a small tarp and practice how you could develop a rain catchment system into empty buckets or containers. You can keep/disguise this system as part of you cleaning supplies and use it to either treat with bleach, boil, or simply use to clean your place or flush the toilets. I also have a water Bob ready to go (50 gallons) for the tub, if I am at home and still have temporary power enough to fill one. Lighting. I have a 24 pack of yard marker lights (look like a hockey puck that I have put out during the day to test in the sun. I will bring them inside and leave them turned off until I need them. They cost just over $2 a piece and were on sale. Put them around selected rooms or central areas and it makes a HUGE difference. I just let them run out or until I go to bed, to recharge the next day. Communications. If you have to go, always leave a coded note for the people who you love and who may come looking for you. 2 years ago I signed up for a GMRS license. $75 bucks for 10 years and you can include the entire family and even friends, and no test is required. Handhelds go for around $20-$25 per unit. Mobile units for vehicles (or in an apartment 🙂can be up to 50 watts. While a handheld can only utilize 5 watts, a mobile unit (keep in your trunk) while more expensive, can legally use up to 50 watts and are very affordable. Handhelds are only good for a half mile or so, but a mobile unit can transmit and receive over 15 miles, many times, better. I have tested them out. These are good for keeping in touch with your network or radioing ahead to bugout locations. Just remember, others are ALWAYS listening. Last tip is in the underutilized space of a person's vehicle. Cash. Even having $50 bucks hidden behind a taillight or under the hood may help get you out of a tight spot. I have (finally) have mine set up to sustain 3 people for 2 days (food and shelter-wise, using shelf stable items like bars and snacks, and looking inside it, you don't see a thing. I believe a vehicle is a big and hidden option when it comes to building a plan that overlaps what you carry day to day and your apartment. Plus the landlord has no say over what is kept in your vehicle. Also keep maps of nearby cities and your state in case navigation is down. I now have my state map plus every state map next to my state in case I need to get away fast. I think this also helps with OPSEC, in that people never observe what you are brining back and forth to the apartment. Good luck and keep prepping!

Great Video. My plan has three legs like the Nuclear Triad. Portable, Small Off Grid Solar System, and a Small Gasoline Inverter Generator. If one or two of the legs are eliminated there is ability to still have power. Portable Power Stations are used to run all the major appliances directly ( Refrigerators, Microwave & Small Kitchen Appliances, Washer & Gas Dryer, Televisions, Vacuums). By using individual Portables the Off Grid Inverter can be keep small at approx. 2000W. Off Grid System runs all LED lighting in house, Furnace, Small loads, and recharges Portables on a rotating timed basis with outlet timers. The Inverter Generator is used to supplement Solar by charging Off Grid Battery Bank. This method relieves you from having one giant inverter that powers the entire house, and if it fails leaves you SOL. With the 2000W Off Grid and all my portables I have a combined Generation of 9300W. If any one Item fails you still have substantial generation capacity still available. I have been meaning to make a video on it.

Here in Michigan there are many days when there is no sun. Especially in the winter. So, as you pointed out, when that happens, I will use my gas/propane generator to charge my solar generators. Some say why bother when you can just power everything from the gas generator. Well at night I am not too fond of running my gas generator at nite for obvious reasons and if gas suddenly becomes not available which happens during outages, and I can no longer use my gas generator I still have my solar generator fully charged. Additionally, charging the solar generator from the gas generator does not really stop you from powering other stuff at the same time. One drawback though to solar is I cant run high amperage stuff like my well pump motor with solar unless you have a very very powerful solar system so if I can't get gas, I must do without my well. But still having some power is better than none.

@gospelofchristministries , no worries. The main reason why I featured this small electric kettle is for individuals who live in an apartment and cannot have fuel based prepping items to rely on. My furnace died in the middle of a very cold December several years ago, and my wood stove was able to keep my family room toasty warm for an entire week while the new furnace was being delivered and installed. I’ll expand on a few things. Water storage and collection, get clean 5gal buckets and lids. They nest in less space when empty. Fill them when expecting a storm or when something happens before the water is cut off. Even if the buckets aren’t good for drinking, they can be used for cleaning, fire suppression, and flushing toilets just by pouring in the bowl. Rainwater, snow melt and the nasty water in the local ditch will flush a toilet. I used sea water a couple times after a hurricane. I’ve used a bucket toilet full time for years. Tidy Cats seems the most effective. Using an “empty” laundry detergent bottle as a urinal decreases smell issues because liquids mixing with solids make the smell worse. The detergent that remains tends to float on top and reduces oder also. Choose cheap flashlights that only require one battery to operate. Having enough lumens to light the dark side of the moon isn’t necessary for utility purposes and replacing one battery instead of 20 makes the preps last longer. A few solar rechargeable landscaping lights are also handy. The choice of Glock platform is also good. Choosing the.40sw version allows the use of conversion barrels so that you aren’t limited to one type of ammunition should sources become scarce. The advantage arms conversion also works well. This gives you 4 basic caliber options plus a couple exotic options in one firearm. The larger frame 45/10mm also has multiple options. A little thought and prep can make what is a horrible or survival situation for most just become an inconvenience.

If we're talking about inside your house during a winter power outage, the layering rules for outside where there's wind and moisture don't apply. How cold it is matters as well. If it's 0 F, you're going to require different options than 25 F. If you have gas or propane, get a fireplace insert or at least one wall unit installed. A wall unit run about the price of a single good sleeping bag, and it will keep everyone in the room warm. People also seem to be afraid of kerosene heaters. One of those will crank out over double the BTUs of a portable propane heater, and 5 gallons of kerosene will run a kerosene heater 16 hours a day for almost a week. Don't forget about freezing pipes. If you don't have a way to keep them from freezing, shut your water off. Otherwise, you can be spending thousands in repairs. Personally, I just run a natural gas generator. It keeps the gas furnace running along with everything else.

@wisenber, Great tips, I will be sure to add a section on heating options in a future video! I agree, a lot of people don't think about freezing pipes during a power outage. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it!!!

I heard that cortex can cause cancer because of the plastic that is water proof

@stlover8011, Not sure, but due to me just wearing it every once in a while and not ingesting any of it, I would say my chances of getting cancer from my Gortex tops & bottoms are extremely low. I could be wrong, though. That is why it is in all of you that watch my channels' best interest to do your own research on the products that I highlight on my channel. @steveflo , Right!!! That is my CCW. Here in Florida, we have constitutional carry laws, so no concealed carry permit is required. I wear some tactical 5.11 cargo shorts and an XL, relaxed fit Carhartt T-shirt, and the Ruger SP101 completely disappears. You can't even see any printing. It's compact but has tons of stopping power. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it!!!

The Tent (Micro Climate) if someone hasn’t used a tent is actually a great way to stay warm / hot with the items you included. At points you will turn off the buddy heater it will get so warm. Great video

@LoadedDownJunkRemoval , Yes sir, it gets really warm in the tent with the Mr. Buddy heater. The 1 pound propane tanks go a lot further with this method of heating than if I would leave it on. I can stretch a 1 pound propane tank for about two nights, vice five straight hours of use. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it!!!

You should mention that you can set up the tent inside your home, someone may think you meant to set it up outside. Also you can get 12 volt electric blankets and that way your power station won't need to use energy to turn on the ac inverter which uses quite a bit of power. Get as many usb items like lighting which also uses very little power. you can buy sleeping bags that are very good for less then $100.00 I also use cots inside my tent they are a lot more comfortable then sleeping on the floor. Great video thank you.

Hey Sargent - i would add an E-tool, some zip ties, duct tape, and a metal mug, 10 empty sand bags ,and some plastic garbage bags, a tarp or 2nd poncho and some plastic sheeting and a canteen or two. Remember everyone has a plan until you get punched in the face. Also consider caches along your route. You can't move for at least 10 days after a nuke detonation so prepare for that. Don't forget good quality masks as well

@trooperjinthewoods4538, I have definitely kicked around the idea of settings up a few caches along the route to my Bug Out Location, but what has kept me from pulling the trigger is the flooding that happens in my area and the very shallow water table that is prevalent in my area. I just have to find the right spot, which would minimize those risks if I want to implement a cache. Thanks for watching and commenting. I appreciate it!!!

100% spot on. Especially good for newer preppers who tend to concentrate on water and food. Also regarding clothing, winter boots, again, Gore Tex or rubber, and gloves/knot cap. I have 3 Buddy heaters. On low I get about 4-5 hours per one pound cylinder, enough to really heat a 15x12 room. Shut off, run it again when gets too cold. Have a good thermometer as you will learn to gauge the temp range you prefer. Now subscribed, thank you sir. Also ,the gas One heaters are tremendous! I use them to cook bacon and splashy-greasy food outdoors year round to keep the kitchen clean and not oily-stinky. Have used them in power outages too. The Ruger will cool off felons...okay make them cold...😛
