Can someone help me understand the economics of this trading business. Presumably Cal is buying mostly from private sellers, therefore he will have no GST input tax credit. However, when he sells the watch he will need to pay GST on the selling price. Therefore flipping a watch $500-1000 over what he pays cannot possibly be profitable. eg he buys a watch from Will Hayward for $5K, and wants to sell it for $5500, and says he wants to make a quick $500. Surely if you sell for $5500, you will only net $5K after paying GST therefore $0 profit. Is he not declaring or am I missing something?
