I’m not sure if you’ll see this but do you think a 78mm turbo on a stock 1jzgte VVTI is too big?
@JeffreyRainwater Жыл бұрын
I think it is too big for street use. It's different on a full race setup on a high stall automatic, trans brake, antilag, and nitrous. I had a 74mm years ago on a 2JZblock, and I would never go back to anything that big for the street. Even a 71mm is only really good for the highway.

@@JeffreyRainwater oh ok thanks for letting me know. I was just wondering since my dad and I were thinking of JZ swapping a 280z as a project. We just want it for good drives and lots of fun. I was thinking of a dual ball bearing billet 7875 turbo for some fun high end power. I was mostly scared of it being too big for only a 2.5L engine (I already know the 2jz is alright for it). Thanks for letting me know, I might do some other research to see what smaller turbos are out there for fun 👍

Transmission is a racing transmission, and it's a fun; but not everyone would say it's daily drivable. Certainly possible. Price, that is not in my control, and I would contact PGS directly. That is so fkn sick setup! Those Kelfords do sound real nasty I love it. My 272 BC's are really mild sounding on the vvt-i 1jz head. How is the PGS gearset working? I'm rebuilding my jzx100 R154 currently with just OEM gears and shafts. Basic MC upgrade parts and OEM + cube short shifter. Might have to consider dog box in the future if it's not intolerable to drive on the street. Only around 750Nm torque applied currently through it...hopefully it won't break when I do built 2jz bottom end + EFR 8474 lol.
@JeffreyRainwater5 жыл бұрын
Marko, I don't put a lot of miles on the car. However, that also could be my appeal with tolerating the characteristics of a dog box for daily driving. PGS made a great set of gears that have held 1400+hp. They hold up to hard launches, but wheel hop will break anything... I have swapped over to my C's short shifter, and it is much more enjoyable. The biggest gains of the dog box is instantaneous gear engagement at exactly where you want it to be, no worries at ALL about damaging any synchros or whatever.... It's instant and the feeling is not easy for me to explain. The confidence you get from the gears, again, just changes the entire driving experience. For me, the PGS Dog Box Gears: Leaving the driveway clanking and banging as I shift gears on a cold engine, at every stop you make, you will remind everyone in the vicinity that your car either a) has a massive transmission problem, or b) it is a world class purpose built racing instrument intended to reduce shift and overall time slips in any motorsport. In summary, I personally see the PGS transmission upgrade as the end result of a dream coming true for me. Couldn't thank Ollie and the folks at PGS enough. Their customer service is outstanding.

with a dogbox, you can shifting without clutch and without release a throttle, right ?
@JeffreyRainwater5 жыл бұрын
Dog box can shift without clutch, but you need ignition cut or lift throttle. Strain gauge is very useful to tell ECU when you shift. Sequential transmissions need to lift throttle or ignition cut, too.
@aditya-br3kg5 жыл бұрын
@@JeffreyRainwater like clutchless ? but in some videos I see that sequential trans doesn't need to lift the throttle , how can do that ?
@JeffreyRainwater5 жыл бұрын
@@aditya-br3kg You use a strain gauge to tell the ECU to cut the ignition. It can be built into the transmission box or into the shifter handle. Do a search for strain gauges and it should explain it all.
